As a follow up to the Racedeck thread, what are the opinions on the urethane or epoxy gargae floor coatings such as U-Coat-it? I'm getting ready to build a two car garage with attached woodshop, and I'm open to thoughts and recommendations as Racedeck is a little pricey for me!

Works really well, and is extremely durable. The pluses are that if you spill oil or anti freeze on it, you can just wipe it up and not leave any stains.
I second that Race Deck is out of the world crazy expensive.
There are cheaper knock off brands, but they are still quite steep. I don't want to spend 3 to 4 grand on my garage floor.
try this stuff. www.retroplatesystem.com/kengarf1.html The trouble with epoxy is as moisture begins to come up through the slab (and it will) the epoxy will bubble causing maintainance headaches. This stuff only looks better over time, is cheaper and more durable, plus it lets moisture escape. They use it on automotive service floors as well as other applications, HomeDepot, restaurants etc. We are trying to get Audi to go for it now, I got to help design their research facility going into the Denver area. There were some older bids about $2.15/s.f. You can stain the concrete prior to application for color if you prefer, that cost was about $6+/s.f. total. If you do it all yourself you could obviously save quite a bit. All but the highest gloss sealer has an ADA compliant slip-coefficiency.

I couldn't find any DIY info on the Retroplate. Can one really diamond-grind a floor and coat it oneself? I saw the results at Home Depot last weekend. Beautiful, but I think they have to reapply it once in awhile.

Im sure theyve gotten a lot better. Whoever had my place before me did the garage floor. Everytime I used an air hose, i had fleks of blue flying in the air. Its just now got to where it is all gone. Im sure prep is the key though. I personally thought about having someone come in and put a thin layer of blacktop over it because it was such a mess.
You're doing it at the right time. With the cement fresh and clean, that is the time to seal (once it is fully cured). It also helps to have the garage empty. I've thought about it for mine, but I'd have to remove so much stuff to move, I just shrug and forget it.

I will have to look for the name of the product but I got some stuff at the paint store and it took 2 kits to do my garage and I have found the if I leave a car parked on it for an extended amount of time it sometimes will pull up the paint. I love having it on the floor it makes clean ups very nice and it makes the garage look cleaner.
