I have a sony dcr-hc40, it came with a cable that goes from my usb, into my camera, but it only lets me transfer pictures from my memory card in the camera, to the pc, how do I trasnfer from the actual tapes? do I have to go buy one of those adaptors?

you might not have to you might just be able to buy a firewire cable pending on how old your computer and you camera or there are a couple other things you can do cheapest would be to buy and adpter or you can buy a whole new video card = D pending on what you like to do with your computer a video card could be a nice addition
