Okay, I am re-filing last year's because we filed separately and I think we can save money if we file jointly (my wife and I, we weren't separated at the time or ever for the record.)
Is this correct in most cases? The saving money part?
Also, when I printed out the stuff Turbo Tax came up with, it included more than the 1040X, it included a 1040, which is suppossed to represent what we sent in last year I suppose. Do I have to mail that as well? Signed? They already have the original on file.
Do I also need to mail the schedule A?
No worksheets, though, right?
Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but if you already sent in a return you will need to file an amended return to correct the one you sent in already. You should be able to see if you will get another refund by comparing the results of filing together and filling separate to see if there is any difference.

thanks for the help everyone. I had printed my copies to file both times, so when I printed the copies to send in, it became suddenly clearer. I didn't file last year because it was rejected because I tried to go in jointly and my wife had already filed us separately. So we only had to amend one, her's. The government never seems to mind you being late when they owe you money. I haven't filed on time in years, but always get a decent refund. I know, why give Uncle sAM the money and you are right! With the wife involved from now on, they won't be late anymore!
