I'm sure we have all heard many pro's and con's about fluoride. Many people still think that sugar is what causes tooth decay, when actually it's the acids that do. I have a healthy diet and drink plenty of water and am still stricken with cavities. I have a prescription fluoride toothpaste that I use. Today I tried this bar soap technique. I didn't feel any plaque residue afterwards. I used a mild light scented soap, I was worried if I'd gag from the soap, but I didn't . These people claim that glycerin which is found in toothpastes is harmful for your teeth. Something about sticking to your teeth and sucking the moisture out of them. Well doesn't bar soap contain glycerin too? I could be wrong. He is one of the many articles out there about this issue.

Probably a lot to do with genetics as well.

I've never had a cavity in my life.

Soap will remove oils, glyceryns, food particles, and dirty words.

Not so good on plaque.

I've known a guy that is a anti-floride person. He brushes his teeth with unflorinated water and then swishes with mouthwash.

Me? I brush with regular toothpaste and I floss everday. I think that makes the best difference.

Do you floss?

Regarding fluoride and teeth, that social experiment has already been done. If you look at the condition of teeth across society BEFORE fluoride supplementation and after, there is no comparison. Fluoride is awesome for teeth.

The issue is whether fluoride is doing you any favors elsewhere in the body.

I don't know how effective just fluoride toothpaste is going to be in an "un-fluorinated" person--i.e., no fluorinated water supply and not using oral supplements.

On an individual basis, just the genetic condition of teeth is going to vary and so some people have nearly indestructable teeth and some have teeth that even fluoride doesn't protect. It isn't fair, but then neither is life so why even bring that up?

I honestly don't know about the soap thing.

BTW, saliva is slightly 'basic', so someone that has reduced saliva has less to neutralize the acid and has a higher chance of cavities.

Bingo! I have never really been a stickler for looking after my teeth and have never had a cavity. Even the dentist said 10 years ago if I hadn't had one by 30 I was never gettting one.

We learned that fluoride is a poison that accumulates in our bones. It has been associated with cancer in young males; osteoporosis; reduced I.Q.; and hip fractures in the elderly, to name a few. George Orwell would have been dazzled by the promotion of this toxic by dental and public health officials and concurrently, the avoidance of this issue by the environmental community. We think it has a lot to do with the sordid 50-year history of the promotion of fluoridation by the U.S. Department of Public Health and the American Dental Association. Rather than acknowledge the accumulating evidence of fluoride's threat to human health, they have en-trenched themselves in a position that has produced tactics that include the harassment of scientists and dentists who speak out."
