Long story short: Cousin has a '91 Laser 2.0L Turbo. He (may have) fried the clutch.

A 'disreputable' shop in town says that his clutch is gone. The symptoms are inconclusive, I will have to go look at it myself, but it grinds while shifting. I'm gonna go test out the clutch setup, it's hydraulic so it might just need a bleed. I'm hoping that's it, anyhow. Otherwise I'm going to have to replace the clutch for him...

Sooooo I guess I'm hoping that someone here has done it before, and if so, do you have any tips for total clutch replacement? Otherwise, if anyone has ever worked on these cars, do they have any weird clutch-related quirks? (You know, like the Fiero. )

Thanks in advance! Plus's and weasels given out freely for any related advice!

91 turbo Lasers (the AWD anyway) don't have the best tranny syncros. I owned one.

The slave cylinder is out, most likely.

What Phil said. I have a 94 Eclipse. DSMs are notorious for syncro problems, especially in 2nd gear. Mine grinds from time to time in the lower gears (2nd the worst, as mentioned.)

It's cool your cousin is driving the good 'ole 1st gen DSM. Too many people own the 95-99s. It's good to be different...

I'm going to look at it sometime this week, hopefully I won't have to tell him he needs a new tranny. 'Cause I'm not installing one. Thanks guys!
