I listen to headphones at the office from my laptop, but the bass response from the onboard sound is just terrible. I thought it was my headphones, and I replaced my beloved 7-year-old Koss UR-30s with Koss Pro 4AAT cans. The new cans are 250 ohm impedence, so I then had to buy a headphone amplifier to properly power them.

Now that the headphones are broken in, and the amplifier is finally here from germany. I brought everything to work to give it a shot. While it sounds much more crisp and precise, it still distorts majorly on the low notes. I think the frequency response of my laptop starts at ~60 hz.

Anyway, I would like to try some kind of USB sound card (must be ok with 1.1) or a pcmcia card. If anyone has something like this sitting around, please reply here.

Uhh...dunno...how do I tell?

This is a Dell c540/c640, model number PP01L.

EDIT: After some research, I have type 2 and type 3 slots open.

Also, I just ordered this usb sound card today. It looks like it only supports usb 2.0 though.
