Kevlar Bicycle Tires by James Bond 007

Anybuby ever use Kevlar Bicycle Tires?In the summer I allways get flats because of bull thorns from tumble weeds.I read that the tire liners (diffrent,type)allso made of kevlar will shred the innertube over time.I have baught thorn proof tubes and they last for about a week or two.Comments?

when i had my Dyno NSX, i was doing trail riding/ jumps in the nearby hills. i had a flat in my front and 2 weeks later in my rear tire. with the front one i put on this prefilled tube that doesnt have a valve stem. it was a ***** to put on but worked like a charm. so i did the same with the rear. i never had to mess with them again. i got them at the local wal-mart for pretty cheap.

I'm not if it'll help, but a few years ago I ran into a tire salesman that had solid bicycle tires, he worked for cooper if I remember correctly, they came with the proper tools to change them and such, came in different colors.

Now if I only knew how to find these tires.

Hmm.. didn' thave those when I used to race x-c.. But of course there were kevlar BEADED tires, is that what you're talking about? I used them because they saved weight and you could fold them up and stick em in your jersey or the what not..

Maybe thats what I was reading,so its just the outer bead and not really the whole tire?I 'll try some new serch words.

No, there at least USED to be kevlar belted tires, called Armadillo, IIRC.

I rode a Fuji Ace road bike all the time; to work, from Randolph to Harvard Square (in Cambridge, MA, the other side of Boston), about 17 miles each way, in addition to other, more recreational stuff, like centuries for charities, etc.

Anyway, despite all the riding, I still carried 180# on my 5'9"+, so I started the lightinging. I changed out the axles for titanium (bent the front one....), the handlebar stem was a lightweight, etc. I also changed the 25mm tires for 20mm's; lighter, less rolling resistance. Big mistake. Riding through the city, flats were a nightmare. First, they were much easier to get, and second, the tire deflated nearly instantaneously. So I found the Armadillos. 23mm and "armoured." Nary a flat until I hung my bike up (hard to leave the wife and kids at five thirty in the AM and return at seven thirty in the PM. Wifey dislikes that schedule).

Yeah, here they are.

I used to race my bicycle with kevlar tyres and train with kevlar tubes.
they are not fool proff but they do help in not getting as many flat tyres.
i don't know what the prices are in the USA but here a Kevlar tube is around the $40 mark and a kevlar tyre is $250 and up

Yikes thats alot,I have found a few listed under "flat free bicycle tires" and airless bicycle tires.

to buy a decent racing bike here you would pay from $3500 and then you need to get some fast wheels and tyres, thats another $2000 on top. Buy a racing bike off the shelf in your size, you don't get fast wheels and tyres. You get training wheels and tyres.
Check the Clarence street cycle shop.
I have a carbon fibre bike and I got it about 15 yrs ago.
it cost me $1500 just for the frame only. No chain,folks,handle bars, head stem, seat,seat post, front and rear derailer. all that was more cost and that was 15 years ago
