I jsut learned of a new game called "Bolo Ball." Some people call it Ladder Golf, but what every you call it, it's a lot of fun to play. The great thing about it is that it's CHEAP to build, doesn't take up a lot of room to store away, can be made out of a bunch of different matierals (wood, pipes) and can be played by anyone- young, old, smart, dumb, wheel chair bound, or a member of this forum!
Here's what it looks like...
Take these and set 'em up like horseshoes and toss the Bolo Balls onto the rungs to score points. Here's a link on how to make and play the game: http://www.pvcworkshop.com/BoloBall.htm
Great for campsites, family gatherings, birthday parties- you name it!
When making it from PVC, try to use some piping that has a little strength to it to make it sturdier. It really helps to use florescent golf balls (yellow, pink) because you'll find yourself playing till dusk and the brighter balls will show up much better. Also, painting the ladders a florescent color will help as it gets darker.
Looks fun! Still looking for lawn darts. Anyone know of a good source?

I played that a few weeks ago at a birthday party for a friend. Was a lot of fun, and if you are good at it, you can bounce the bolo off of the ground and onto the bottom rung.
Top rung is worth 1 point, middle is 2 points, bottom is 3 points. You have 3 bolos to throw.
Each team takes turns throwing, like in Horse Shoes. Points cancel each other out. So if you get all 3 on the bottom, and the other team gets 2 on the bottom, and one on the middle, you only get 1 point.
So on, so forth. The team that scored last, gets to throw first in each round. You MUST hit 21 points exactly. If you score 9 points, and it puts you OVER by 3 points, you must deduct 9 points from your current total, and then try again on the next round.
I'm not sure how golf balls are made these days. Years ago I used to take lacerated ones apart. I found several types of construction but, sorry, I don't remember a whole lot about them.
Main thing is you want to use some care making the hole thru them. Some balls could have guts that could bind a drill. Where safety glasses just in case something come flying out of them.

It is a blast.
We played it where the top rung was 3 points then on down. I think that scoring works better because it's easier to get the balls to bounce off the ground onto the lower rung. Get one on all three rungs and you get an extra point. The MUST hit 21 sounds like a good rule- makes it more competitive and the team that's a few points or more behind don't get as discuraged. As far as drilling into the golf balls, you should always wear safety glasses when using power equipment- something I should do more often. My brother-in-law didn't mention anything about having trouble drilling the holes so I can't say much about that. The one thing that I thought was neat about their set was that he used a flat rope of some kind, something that's used for snaking wires through walls (?).
This is safer than lawn jarts, unless the person throwing them is really bad, then a helmet might come in handy- for everyone!
