Im looking into getting a 1997 Ford Probe GT for a great price, but i dont know much about the 2.5v6 kl-de motor that comes with the gt. I know the 2.0 motor/trans that came with base probes and contours are crap, but what about the 2.5? Seems pretty solid running but I cant find any info on the kl-de. Anybody ever owned or had experence with a Ford/Mazda with this motor?

Hope that helps...my daughter has a 93 Probe base with the 4 cylinder engine. It has the Mazda engine and transmission, not the Ford. Has been a really good car for her. The Ford automatic transmissions are the ones you want to stay away from.

The "Ford" engine is the Mazda engine - there's no difference.

The KLDE (or KL03, take your pick) is a very nice engine. Quite peppy w/ very good low end and mid torque and a pretty good revver. It takes to bolt-ons quite well. But the KLZE engine from Japan is a very popular swap. The ZE features higher CR, better intake mani, better heads (cams). And it is a bolt-in swap

Even if you decide to stick w/ the DE, I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised. You'll fall in love very quickly too

Have a 96 GT and love it. Do not gat a car with an automatic, as they cost major $$$$$$$ when (not if) they break. The V6 is a very smooth engine that sounds pretty good at 7000 RPM. It isn't very powerful (165 HP I think), but it does the job.
