How many people Like the "Dream" part and when the Dream comes true find that it was just the Dream that they wanted all along and find a new dream.
Not to mention, how many people want to build the dream themself, not have it handed to them. Not to knock the great amount of work they do and it is truly beyond what most any enthusiast can do or afford, but it does rob them of being a part of the car's construction.

I really disliked the seats, even their design and coloring, especially the stitching.
I agree. It's nice the proceeds are going to a good benifit. As for the car...I've seen a better looking one on the speed channel owned by a comedian who driven his car on a "Power Tour." As for the Show "Overhaulin" damn I hate it. Too much clowning (acting) and not enough build-up details.

Exactly, not knocking anyone that wants to just go pick up the car from the shop and blow the doors off everyone. But thats not for everyone, I for one would rather have an old looking rat rod that looks like things are just tacked together from 10 feet then some custom car that lookes great no mater how close you are to it. I dont want the same car that everyone else has. I dont expect to win any awards with my car and it sure isnt up to the level that some of the cars are on here but it gets attention and makes me smile.
I like fooses work, but I agree, its nothing like doing it yourself.. who cares if its show quality.. if its built the way you want it and with the memories

I love Overhaulin, and Chip Foose has to be one of the greatest artists/designers/builders/car guys of this era. Every time I watch the show, I always promise my wife that I'll act surprised when they do the reveal of my car( it used to be the 88 Fiero, but since it's pretty well finished, It'll have to be the 95 Mustang GT convertible or 94 S10 SS). So far, all of my vehicles are still here!

Besides people moving on... The other big issue is likely taxes.
Winning a car, or god help you a house, means a big tax load to the winner. I doubt if Overhaulin, Pimp My Ride, etc are any different. You can bet the tax man comes around when they hear you just got thousands of dollars worth of anything from a TV show. The ones I really have to wonder about are the people in the Extreme Makeover Home Edition... Most of those people can't hope to pay the tax loads. If they could they probably could have moved somewhere better to start with.
Examples...
The first HGTV house givaway resulted in a huge fight over property transfer and other taxes. At one point the media was reporting the guy was looking at loosing the house because they wanted around $60,000 in taxes just at the local gov't level in property transfer tax.
Friends of mine won a car from a local dealer. After they were told that is would cost them $6-7,000 in taxes, they quickly made a deal to unload it thru a charity.
Many game show winners have had to sell almost everything they won to pay off the tax bill.
You don't get anything from a Contest or TV show and not end up paying one way or another for it. Often in big ways. It's a big reason I won't play contests.
------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurasic Park)
I've read through some of the TLC board and this has come up before. Average tax load for the winner is 5-6k
and it's caused unexpected problems for a couple of them, IE have to buy another car since their "Overhauled" one is no longer fit for daily driver duties, and they don't feel comfortable just driving it to the mall or general local runs. Not so hard on the ones that were keeping it as a spare/long term project as they already had other transportation.
Correct. Many victems of the half baked Oprah car show had to unload the cars to settle the taxes. This was covered in the major press.
As I mentioned... This has happened to many people connected to TV shows with big payouts. It has been going on for many years. If you are going to play on a game show... do one that pays some or all in cash. That way you can give up the cash for the taxes and not end up holding really big tax bills.
I saw this car at a show in Denver (this past winter, I think) and was not impressed. $175,000? I don't think so... the paint, fit and finish were not what you'd expect of a top quality show car. But then, it was built in one week!
