I read this and my blood ran cold. I don't subscribe to paranoia or conspiracy theories, but this has frightening implications, and not with illegal immigrants.
"the government [is] making plans for large-scale detention centers in case of an "emergency influx" of immigrants."
"provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."
"The new facilities could be used for round-ups of Muslim Americans or other American citizens tagged as "enemy combatants."
The use of military personnel and military contractors in the event of a Katrina-like disaster, which the Halliburton contract provides for, brings us closer to martial law, whether it is officially declared or not"
I know the Bush haters will be saying "I told you so" but this doesn't look good. Not good at all. Are any of the other conservatives on here as concerned about this as I am?

I don't know if i'm a conservative, or just exactly what I am anymore, but yes, I am VERY concerned!
After the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066. This act based on ethnicity permitted the military to bypass the constitutional safeguards of American citizens in the name of national defense. The order excluded persons of Japanese ancestry then living on the West Coast from residing and working in certain locations. This traumatic uprootment culminated in the mass evacuation and incarceration of most Japanese Americans, most of whom were U.S. citizens or legal permanent resident aliens. They were detained for up to 4 years, without due process of law or any factual basis. They were forced to live in bleak, remote camps behind barbed wire and under the surveillance of armed guards. Japanese American internment raised questions about the rights of American citizens as embodied in the first ten amendments to the Constitution.
History repeats itself?

Call me crazy I don't see a problem with making these plans. I would have a problem executing the plans in any case. Come on look how unprepared we were for Katrina with little plannig. What is wrong with having a plan before a problem arises?

I guess my concern is what that plan might be.
There's a reason you don't use the military for police work in your own country. The military is there to protect the state from it's enemies. The police are there to protect the people.
When the military becomes the police, the people start to become the enemies of the state.

so a black guy, a mexican and a white guy are walking on a beach and find a lamp. The mexican picks it up and rubs the lamp. A genie pops out and says "I will give each one of you one wish". The mexican says " I wish all of us mexicans in the US can go back to mexico and have great lives there and live peacefully", so poof, the mexican dissapears and as does all the other mexicans in the US. Next the black guy wishes that all of his people could go back to africa and have great lives there and not have to live in the US anymore. So then poof, he dissapears. then the white guy is standing there looking at the genie and he says "wait, so all of the black people and all of the mexicans are gone from the US?" The genie says, "that is correct, what is your wish?" and the white guys says, "well, just give me a coke".

Oooooooo! You're going to catch HELL for that one! Not from me, as I think EVERYTHING is open to humor. My face is proof of that! Good luck!

Yeah. Something tells me once it's suspended, it ain't coming back without a fight, if ever. Has there ever been a "suspension of the Constitution" in our history?
" Perhaps it can be summed up succinctly in the words of arch-conservative activist Howard J. Ruff. "Since the enactment of Executive Order 11490, the only thing standing between us and dictatorship is the good character of the President, and the lack of a crisis severe enough that the public would stand still for it.""
