I don't really like Rum, or Tequila, whiskey if it is sweet, but Vodka I could drink any time.
Especially Vodka and Cranberry juice mixed roughly 1oz Vodka to 2oz Cranberry, just strong enough to really taste the vodka but not so strong that it leaves that ting in your throat when you take a big drink.
Anyone else here like Vodka.
What brands do you drink.
For me I am just a plain Jain guy, Smirnoff is my primary with Polar Ice being a close 2nd. I have never really found anything fancy about the exotic kinds.
I really don't like beer, not sure why, just never have. My father brought me up on spirits and wine. If I drink something pre-mixed it is usually a Smirnoff Ice or some type of Wine Cooler.
Just curious. I usually have an average of 1 drink per day. (which really means nothing for a couple days then 4 on a Friday night and 3 on Saturday) LOL.
So anyone else partake in the Vodka drinks.

I tried some of that "raw unsweetened" cranberry juice and nearly choked to death. Good God that stuff is pucker-tastic.
Vodka is nice, it mixes with damn near everything... I can never understand how people can discern the difference between a $10 and $100 bottle of _whatever_. I usually go for whatever's right above the "plastic bottle" stuff
Plastic, aside from being incredibly cheap, probably leaches stuff into the alcohol... Speaking of which, since you're a vodka connessour (however you spell that), you might want to give this a shot - it worked *very* well.
Note that I don't recommend keeping the filter after your filtration. Do everything in one filtration, put it back in the original bottle and discard the filter. My filter grew mold after a day. (Don't ask how - I don't know! I guess 80 proof wasn't strong enough to prevent the mold from growing?)
Vodka's great. I like rum, tequila, and whiskey too. Wine I'm not big on, but then I haven't been exposed to much of it. Beer depends on the brand. I have a slight allergic reaction to beer or something in it, though, that I don't have to most hard liqour. It's the only thing that will leave me with a "hangover." The quotes meaning that it isn't really a hangover, but a sinus headache, that I have in the morning. One non-prescription sinus/allergy pill and I'm fine. Usually I just stick to hard liqour and skip the allergic reaction entirely.

Just Vodka, I drink it with (bracing myself here) Diet Dr. Pepper. Start out with 2 1/2 shots in a 8 oz glass, three ice cubes, then add a shot with every glass till you can no longer hold the bottle to fill your glass. Smirnoff Black Label is mine, just becouse its a little higher in Proof, I tried the flavored and vanilla was nice, but it cuts down on the proof of the vodka to a point I'm not really comfortable with. Ya the neat thing about Vodka at least for me is that I never get sick or a hang over drinking it.
New Years I drank a few more than I should at a fellow forum members house.
I knocked back bottle of TGI's Mudslides. Then a half bottle of wine, then a mickey of Vodka mixed into cranberry juice and topped it all off with Red Wine.
I passed out sometime around 4am after rolling on the floor practically having a laughing fit. I really did not care what was going by new years. I just knew I was quite hammered/happy.
I woke up the next day like nothing had happened. With the expection of the cramp in my back from sleeping on the floor with a couch cushion as my pillow.

What's wrong with the plastic bottle stuff? I kind of like the burn of it, Polar Ice is good too though. When I go to a bar I always order a vodka sour- with the cheapest vodka they carry. Red Lobster only had Grey Goose, that stuff is no fun, I was drunk without ever tasting it... and each drink cost $8.
I've never had a hang over from it either, tequila is about the only thing I'll drink that'll do it.

I am perfectly happy to spend the extra bucks for a French chateau wine from Bordeaux, or a 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky. I know why German beer is better than American beer (and I enjoy both.) I even stock Nicaraguan Flor de Cana rum, because it's 4 (or more) years old vs Bacardis' 2 years. However, vodka is another story. Accoding to Grossmans Guide to Wines, Beers, and Spirits, (the industry 'bible'): "VODKA is neutral spirits so distilled, or so treated after distillation with charcoal or other material, as to be without distinctive charachter, aroma, taste or color." If you like fancy bottles, go ahead and buy Grey Goose or Chopin. I pour Skol, Smirnoff or Taaka. Cheers!

Like Capt Fiero, I don't like rum or tequila. But I like vodka! White Russians, Black Russians, screwdrivers, martinis... it's all good.
My favorite brand is Stoli. I also like Absolut. But to me, Smirnoff tastes wood-grainy (yuck!). Oh, BTW Stoli goes perfectly with Minute Maid citrus punch (1 part Stoli / 4 parts punch).

MMMMMMmmmmmm Vodka!!!! I like Smirnoff (sp) or Absolute. The drink I make is called "Strawberry Lemonaide"
Take 6 oz of Strawberry daquri mix, 4 oz of vodka, 2 oz orange juice, 1 oz of Welches concentrated Lemonaide (The stuff you get frozen in a can, just scoop it out of the can full strangth) Put into a blender, add 2 scoops of sugar to sweeten the lemonaide mix. Top off the blender with ice and mix it up.
Tastes somewhat like a daquri, only a bit sweeter. It makes 2 large glasses, and you can hardly taste the alchohol. (Really a sneaky drink... )

Yep quite the cooshy cooshin. I really don't remember much about going to sleep though, aside from Lisa coming and crashing next to me stealing most of my blanket. Yes it was a fun night for all. Like usual your parties are ones to be "remembered if you can"

Cheap burns like fire, expensive is smooth as water? That's what I hear, but I don't drink vodka myself. The guys (hackers, basically) at the Broken tested a myth that you could take the cheapest stuff available, run it through a water filter a few times (Brita for instance), and end up with something quite like the high end stuff. Apparently they said it does work!

Quite honestly, I've had the best luck wiht Poopov. Blue label gets it done quicker even. Naskie will know what I'm talking about.
Some homemade Khalua, little of the blue label Popov, and some Vitamin D milk. Good White Russian. Maybe add some Bailey's if we feel adventerous.
Yeah, we definately enjoyed 2 fifths of Blue Label Popov this weekend
The homemade Kahlua is way better than the store bought stuff, so that certainly helps, but as Tim said, we've had the best luck with Popov, both the red and the blue labels, although the blue is definately preferred if at all possible
I probably have an average of one drink per day, although my drinks are typically quite strong, we've got these nice massive cups here that'll take you a while to drink all of, but boy is it good
I have been drinking mainly vodka drinks lately. I get far fewer hangovers and headaches from it than I do when I drink beer! I generally don't mix anything really fancy, sometimes I will mix with soda, sometimes cranberry juice. I don't generally buy any expensive brands either, and usually end up with Smirnoff's.

I'm more of a rum and coke guy myself, but when I do drink other mixed drinks i like the vodka based ones. My favorite vodka is the polar ice one And it's made in Toronto, so it's local....well the same country at least lol.

I usually drink Vodka..Actually when I'm home I'll drink straight Vodka martini's. Can't do that when I'm out or I'd never be able to drive home. I can definitly tell the difference in cheap vodka to expensive vodka. If you gave me a drink with smirnoff or absolute in it I would definitly know immediatly because of the harsh taste they have. Grey Goose and three olive is very smooth. If I'm feeling cheap when I'm at the liquor store the cheapest I'll go is sky or Danska.

Does vodka leave your breath with an alchole smell.
IE if a guy is drunk on beer or whisky. you can tell a mile away.
But if a guy is drunk on vodka does vodka leave a vodka smell. I know when you put vodka in a drink it is almost hard to tell by smelling it if it has vodka in it. (unless it is a martini that is 50/50 and Oh so GOOD)

I've never had anyone mention that my breath smells like alcohol after drinking vodka, if that counts for anything. I also fail to notice any of the foul taste that some other liqours leave the following morning.

Then you've never done a blind taste test. Or your pallet can't tell the difference. There is a VAST difference in quality between cheap vodka and good vodka. Not all expensive vodka is good.
So, what kind of French "house" wine do you prefer? Chateau de Horshiat can be from Bordeaux and still taste like it's name.
This is my favorite vodka of all time, but it's not available in NC. I have to drive to VA to get it. http://www.glaciervodka.com/ Glacier Vodka. One of the best vodkas in the world, and it's made in the U.S.A.
It's a potato vodka, rather than a grain vodka, and the difference is striking.

Ya know I don't feel so strange anymore. I am not the only person that really does not like beer.
My buddies ordering a pitcher of beer, and I order a vodka matinée or double vodka cranberry in a tall glass on ice.

Thanks for the warm words. I spent 18 years in the wholesale wine and spirits trade, and five years with a specialty (gourmet) food products wholesaler. My ex and I have catered parties for the "rich and famous." OK, locally famous, and filthy rich. Based on my experience, I'm pretty sure that my palate is at least as good and probably better educated than yours. Vodka (ANY type) is the cheapest spirit of all to manufacture. It's usually made in a continuous (column, or Coffey) still, and not aged in expensive wood casks like whiskey. That fact alone saves big bucks on labor cost and evaporation loss. They love it when you spend $35.00 on a product that cost pennies to make. And gets mixed with CRANBERRY JUICE??? But it's a free country. Drink whatever you like. Fancy bottles are SO pretty.

Looking back on it, it was a very stupid thing to do, but back in high school me and my close group of friends would mix up vodka and orange juice and leave it in our loocker and in between classes we'd drink right out in the open, teachers walking by, who cared. Now day's i'm a jack and coke fan, those things are like candy! Beer is awsome but for some reason I drink like 2 beers an have to pee like 8 times. The jack and coke i can sit and drink all night and pee like once. -gary-
