I put a remote start on my '99. Use the DEI 555L bypass module. It doesn't require any programming or anything. It's 100% plug n play. Worked great. $29
==HERE==Here's my tips:
1. Disconnect the battery first!
2. Use a multimeter, not a test light to check wiring.
3. Be safe and disconnect the airbags first thing.
4. If it's identical to my '99:, most of the wiring can be located in the BCM which is under the dash in the center. there are three connectors, purple, blue, and brown.many of your teminations can be made to wires coming from this box.
5. Solder everything! And use shrink tubing, not tape. Put the tubing on the wire, make your connection, and then shrink the tubing over the splice. Make your splices line splices, meaning so that it's all in-line, rather than like a "V", as the line splices are nicer and take up less space in a wiring bundle.
6. You have to contend with the factory alarm, meaning, if you lock the doors with one door open, and come back and unlock that door with anything other than the FACTORY remote, the horn blasts. Which means, if the doors lock with one open, and you try to unlock with the aftermarket remote, the horn will blast. The alarm disable is a green wire in the purple connector on the BCM. This wire will show (-) when the key is turned to the unlock pos at the drivers door lock cylinder. Connect a negative pulse from your remote module to that wire. (again this assumes the 98 is identical to the 99, which I *think* it is)
==Here's== a table with wires and locations, plus the site has a lot of other great resources you might need.
