Well, it's not quite started yet, but i'm so excited, that i just can't wait to post. first, we've got almost all the parts. the rest are in transit, but they're on the way. Next, the car will be dropped off on Sunday afternoon, so the work can commence. This should be a very fast procedure, i'm having a friend do the install, and he said, if all goes well, it will be done, dyno tuned (so i'll be able to tell you WHP too.) and ready to go by this thursday, (could take up to three weeks at the longest). also, as soon as i get the launch down (i'm going to have a ton more low end power, in a FWD car, so it's gonna take some getting used to) i'll hit the track and come back with a slip.
Background: first and foremost, i am a fiero lover. i promise. saturn happens to be my daily driver until i can do everything i want to the fiero. 4 reasons i'm doing this to a saturn however. 1. i'm sick of having a slow car 2. it'll be very different from everyone else 3. i need more low end torque (currently peaking @ 4800 RPM) 4. the look on a persons face when they get spanked by a saturn will be priceless... (in other words sleeper)
Car: 96 Saturn SL2. yes, it's a four door. (adds to that sleeper affect) but it's a stick, so that makes up for it 5spd with a stock 4.063 FD, with a curb weight of 2380 lbs. stock LLO (LLO = DOHC 1.9) output is 124 HP @ 5600 RPM, and 122 FT LBs @ 4800 RPM. engine is strong, 3 cyclinders running 205 Compression, 4th running 210 (stock is 210), just under 80K miles.
Set-up: Garret T3 super 60 (set for 6 PSI), rebuilt and balanced. intercooler (not sure what kind). ACT clutch (rated for 240 ft lbs), Misc BOV, Log maifold (i know, i know, but it's cheap, and reliable), custom downpipe, and a 2.5 inch Stainless Steel straight pipe all the way out, with a glasspack in the middle. (trust me, it sounds very, very low, not like the little rice rockets). Stock internals. trans will be taken apart, and Diff Pin welded. (i've heard under power, the pin can brake, and crack the trans case, this is what i'm told and i've seen examples).
Projections: Price (install and all the parts) $3500 Car $2200 possible wheel and tire upgrade (my cousin works at TireDiscounters, and said he can get me 17 inch enkei racing wheels that weigh 5 lbs each, and that would be great to have, but i also think he is full of BS) total investment < 6K (without new wheels) hoping to be able to get 25 MPG around town, or 30 MPG (what i get now) babying it. over 40 highway. (got 42 the only time i checked, going 75 MPH spinning 3.3K RPM) hoping to peak torque @ 3500 RPM or so. and hoping HP peaks a little higher than 5600 RPM. shooting for a high 13, low 14 in the quarter. and around 190 FWHP 190 FW torque (i'm told by Turbosaturns.net that i should be able to hit those numbers with 6 PSI) but we will know FOR SURE, once it's dynoed and i hit the track.
So, stay tuned, and i hope you guys are at least mildly interested. more updates to come as soon as i have them...

no, because, i couldn't have anyone install it for that. i couldn't buy a manual trans and put that in my auto fiero. my fiero is dying for a paintjob. and my saturn has MUCH better brakes stock. Fiero = project car. and it's going to take more than $3500 to get it where i want it. plus, when my cousin turns 16 in two years, and when i want to sell it, he'll pay me for whatever i've put into it. so yeah.

sounds like the part of a plan. i've done this very thing several times. it turns out ok, but you'd be better off turbo'ing one of the short wheelbase coupes.

I also own a Saturn. A '94 SC2, it definatly has no torque whatsoever off the line. I also hate having a slow car, but it's sad that my Saturn is considerably faster than my Fiero....I doubt those 17" wheels weigh 5 lbs. If they did, I'd be afraid to run them on the street because they couldn't be strong enough at all. They probably weigh around 15-20lbs each. I have some 17" Enkei TBS-11's, and they weigh 21 lbs each. That's why I'll most likely go with 15" wheels next time, unless I can find some very lightweight 16"-17" front and rear wheels that I like.

wheel, like i said, i think my cousin is full of BS, but i could be wrong. what he did tell me though is that you can pass the wheel from person to person (and i mean throw here) and it wasn't heavy at all. but he could be full of it. The other thing is, just because it's light, doesn't mean it's weak. there are strong and light metals on the planet, for all i know they could be magnesium (i don't know for sure that mg is lighter than AI, but i've heard it so that's just my example, and i could be wrong).

Well, i don't know what the advantage would be to using the shorter wheelbast coupe, but there are already several 4 door models on that site, one of which is running 19-20 PSI, and pushing 300 FWHP. next, Titan (the guy that owns TSN), is who i am paying to do the swap, and he aparently see's nothing wrong with using my SL2 as a turbo. anothing thing, i already have this car, so i'm using it. I did want a 95-96 SC2, but couldn't find one for less than $4K. i bought my 96 SL2 with EVERY SINGLE OPTION!!!! except a auto (which i didn't want), a cd player (which i fixed), and fog lights, it had 66K miles, and ran good for that $2200, so i couldn't pass up the deal on it.

also, i forgot to mention my fuel management. i'll be running an SDS extra injector controller, with two extra injectors, basically, the stock fuel system will do it's normal thing, and when the turbo comes on, the SDS will tell the extra two fuel injectors to start adding fuel so as not to lean the motor out.
also, i found out that there is a guy on turbosaturns.net that ran a 14.6 @ 95 MPH with 5 PSI, an auto, and no fuel management, except for 33 # injectors, on a 149K mile engine. so i don't see 14.2 being out of reach at all.

i lust say short coupe for the extreame difference in weight.
we've got a couple of local guys who did the garage advance cars, that are low cost, stock bottom end low 14 second cars. tha fastest saturn to date (barring Kubo's worlds fastest FWD drag car) is a 10 second nitrous 92 SL@ with a stock bottom end. www.differentracing.com
have fun with your project and don't half ass anything. it'll end up costing you more in the long run.

ok, time for the first update. Dropped the car off yesterday to Mike, and Trevor, at hutter's garage. and i did not know this, the garage my car is being worked on at, also makes some engines for NASCAR, so i have a great feeling that they know what they are doing . we ended up getting on the highway around 2:00 in the afternoon, we left from hamilton, which is just above cincy. and we got there around 6:30, and i did not realize ohio was small enough that you could get to cleaveland that fast. on the return trip, i aslo got to see lake erie. got home around 1:00 AM, and i just got up. anyway, Mike is going to be pulling the motor and trans out today, so he can install the clutch, and do the work to the transmission. he is also going to clean my motor, and get into the oil pan. by the end of today, the engine should be in the car, he said he'll take pictures, but i might not get them today, i'll let you know if i do.

Ok, here's the newest and latest. and i'm sorry but no pictures tonight. (hopefully tomorrow). anyway, the motor was pulled this morning, but it was dynoed first (for my baseline). the motor pulled 107 HP to the front wheels, nothing spetacular, but if my engine is still making 124 crank HP, then that's a 13.5% loss, but i don't know exactly how much i'm lossing to the wheels. what does a stock fiero GT make at the wheels anyway?
next, he told me that upon pulling out the motor, he discovered that my drivers side motor mount is bent, and my drivers side CV joint is trash and needs replaced... after those fixes, he's hoping to have the motor back in by tomorrow night. that's all for now.

To let you know what the pics will show, the intercooler is in, the fuel management is in, the trans has be taken apart, strengthened and put back together. clutch is in. oil lines for turbo are ready. and the A/C has been moved forward slightly.

Unfortunately there was something wrong with the files you sent me. Either they were corrupted or in an improper format because my outlook express would not let me open them. You may have a virus on your computer you don't know about. Try one more time and see what happens.
