Just plain sad state of reporting! As I drove home from work today, it was breaking news that Herb Brooks had died in a car accident on Minnesota roads. That was about 4:30pm. It's now an hour and a half later and cnnsi.com has a tiny blurb on it on their front page.
Why is it that Kobe Bryant get front page "Breaking News" headlines for showing up at a court appearance and a National Icon, Legend, Hero and Idol in the U.S. Hockey scene gets a small blurb on the front page????

I'm sorry to hear that. Herb Brooks was a huge figure in US hockey. He'll be missed.

"Do you believe in Miracle's".... said by Al Michael's at the end of the USA victory in the 1980 Olympic's as Herb Brook's led a bunch of college player's to a victory over the Russian's in route to the Gold medal!! Herb Brook's Loved hockey!! He could have made money on endorcement's, etc. after winning the gold in Lake Placid, NY. But, ALL he wanted to do was coach hocky, so he headed to Europe to coach instead of getting pat's on the back for leading his team to the gold!! Herb was definatly a different type of coach. He cared about nothing but, his family and coaching hockey!!
Herb, We ALL will miss you!!

It's simple dude...not enough people give a crap about hockey. Not flaming the game..It just doesn't garner the attention that a top star in the nba does. I'm not a hockey fan but I respect what the miracle team did to lift the spirits of this country and feel bad for his family to lose him in an accident.

Btw...Most of the stuff I watch is on Tivo and I've voud that when watching Pardon the interuption or the news the instant I hear kobi's name I hit the fast forward button. I'm already tired of hearing about it!

It was on the local news immediately here. He's been a employee of the Pittsburgh Penguins the past several years being everything from a player scout to head coach. Recently he was named Head of Player Development for the Penguins since he preferred working with the younger players rather than being in the limelite as a coach.

I thought Herb Brooks received a deserving amount of media coverage. There was something on all the major and local media outlets. Kobe gets a lot of attention because its a tabloid-like story, except not at all made up!

I was just responding to the remark made that it is barely being covered unlike kobi who farts and we not only here about but also how they may effect his court case.

I was on my way back from St.Paul and got caught in the trafic jam from the rubber neckers slowing down to look, I saw the van on the South Bound side, I was on the North Bound side, it was pretty crunched.

Found out who's van it was when I got home and watched the news, real sad, no seatbelt and he was ejected, too bad, I feel sorry for the family, sounds like he may have either fallen asleep of had a medical problem, autopsy will tell.

I'm still chocked up over Coach's passing.

I have met Coach many times over the years, I seem to run in to him at least a few times every hockey season at SCSU. He had a passion for hockey like no other. I will cherish all of those times speaking with Herb Brooks. I can still remember back to my days of youth hockey when I learned how to do "herbies!"

He has done so much for Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey, and the World of Hockey as a whole. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Coach your in a better place now...

Some Brooksisms:

"You're playing worse every day, and right now you're playing like the middle of the next month."

"Gentlemen, you don't have enough talent to win on talent alone."

"You look like a monkey trying to screw a football!"

Describing Badger fans "they have great fans, they don't
know anything, but they're great fans."

Jim
