I have a chance to buy a wrecked 3rd gen Camaro. I'm trying to determine if I can use the tranny and rear end in my '77 Firebird Formula. Google has given me no info so I'll ask here. Can the swap be (easily) done?

NOPE.

The 3rd gen cars went to a 4-link rear with a torque arm. Your car has leaf springs. You would have to cut the mounts off of the newer rear end and weld spring perches on so it will bolt in. If you don't get the phase angle right (the angle of the pinion centerline from horizontal- which has to match the angle of the transmission tailshaft from horizontal) you will get a vibration. The newer rear end is much weaker than the 10 bolt in your car, anyway. Your best option is to beef up yours or get an older F-body(Camaro/Firebird) or X-body (Nova, Ventura, etc.) 10 or 12 bolt and slap it in there. You might get an S-10 rear end to fit, but it will be weak and possibly too wide.
