Don,

I saw one of those several years ago up in NE. The guy said it was a conversion and somebody made a kit back in the mid '50's or so. What year is that, about a '50 model? Sure beats the 120cid 4 cylinder they came from the factory with (a whopping 21 hp, IIRC the flathead V8 doubled that or thereabouts).

If I ever get all my old slides scanned in this winter, I'll find some of my old tractor puller pictures and post them. Some of those just blow your mind. Compounded turbos and running spark ignited alcohol in diesel engines (with the stock 20:1 or so compressions).

I did not know that such a beast existed. We have an old Ford back on the acreage as well. I still can't believe how cheap parts are for them, and the fact that most of the implement dealerships still have them in stock even after 50 years. One thing I have always been unsure of is whether or not Fordson and Ford tractors are made by the same company. One of our neighbours had a Fordson and it looked almost identical to ours.

Good little tractors they are.

Yep, both made by Ford. My uncle had a few. Dad worked for the Massey-Ferguson dealership for over 40 years and it's just a mile from our farm so guess what brand we ran (and still do run)?

That looks like a copy of the Funk flathead V8 conversion from many, many years ago.

I goofed on my post above. There were supposed to be 2 pictures of the old Funk ads. The V8 pic got away from me somehow and all I managed to post was the 6 cylinder conversion picture. The one in MaryJane's original post looks like a copy of the Funk kit. Some other kits were marketed after Funk went out of business. I searched the internet for Hy8 and found nothing.

BTW, my 42 2N is rated at 27 HP at the crank, so the 8N were probably at 30. The Flathead was supposed to be 100 HP.

I started out with just an 8N I inherited from my father. Unfortunatley my grandfather had hammered it into the ground. About 2 years ago I found a 9N for a good price and started using it. I am hoping to get the 8N back together and in working order by next summer. The 8 has alot toys that the 9 was to early for.
