I've always loved that car... the way it looks, the fact that you can get it in 4wd... Anyone here ever owned one? Anyone know anything about it? Saftey? Reliability? Aftermarket support? I'd love to buy one for an all-year round car - If I ever get the cash to afford one! (I know its just a rebodied Mitsubishi but you can't get those here in Canada...)
So, what do you people think of the Dodge Stealth?

Personaly, I like them. Kind of like the 3000GT. Expensive for the car, and expensive upgrades. But stock, it is a fast car. I would buy one if I had the money. But out here, it is hard to find one with low miles on them. If I am not mistaken, they don't make them anymore. Too bad. They could have gone far. Just like the Fiero. I am not sure about the safety issure with the car. Just wanted to give my two bits on the subjuct.

All I know about the Dodge Stealth (besides the fact that it's a Mitsu 3000GT) is that just like the 3000GT, you can replace the factory turbo with a big freaking aftermarket turbo (with intercooler) and get some ludicrous amount of HP out of it.
The car tips the scales at over 3100 pounds (thanks to the AWD setup), so any power increase and/or weight reduction you can accomplish will be helpful. Also, the AWD setup gives the car some really nice handling.
In the same "class", and for the same money, get a 300ZX TT.
The Stealth/3000GT twins are essentially poseur cars made to look faster than they are, and are really less then the sum of their parts. To really try to drive one quickly is to know true automotive frustration, with the weight, soft suspension, poor tires and brakes, and horrible weight distribution all acting in concert to try to kill you.
I'm not saying I'd take a Dodge "K" car over one, but it's close. At least the "K" cars never claimed to be performance machines...there's something to be said for honesty.
This is my opinion (based on many unfortunate miles behind the wheel), and opinions were what you were asking for, so please don't flame me.

the 300zxTT's came in all wheel drive? And does all wheel drive have the same performance in snow as four wheel drive?
If i were to buy a new car it would have to have all wheel or 4 wheel drive, because my family shares a cottage which is inaccessible in the winter unless you have a four wheel drive car.
Then again, I'd assume a stealth is so close to the ground that its all-wheel drive would be pretty useless in any significantly deep snow.

I love the way they look but your right Triad They don't perform up to their looks. Plus they are unreliable as hell. I've heard of many owners going through 2 to 3 tranny's by the time you put on 60 to 70 thousand miles. Not a reliable car at all! Hell you can get them around here in good shape with about 100 thousand miles on it or so for about 4 grand.

My friend has a Dodge Stealth. It a nice car but not something that I would want to own. It just doesn't impress me that much. They are expensive to fix too. His water pump just went a few weeks ago and he had to get all new timimg belts and stuff. It cost about a grand to do. His ABS quit working too and for a new unit it would cost him like 3500 and a rebuilt one is like 1500. Its a good looking car and all, a little oversized for me, just not something that I would buy.

If you're looking for good performance and all wheel drive, I highly recommend you look into Subarus; the latest models especially (RS, WRX) are fairly sporty with lots of aftermarket stuff available and have great AWD platforms.
Stealths are just renamed 3000 GTs; very heavy, and should come with much more power. There is a lot out there to do to them, but that's because they need mods to get to where they ought to be.
Oh yes, and not ALL mechanics hate to work on ANY specific car....well paid/treated/respected mechanics will work on any car without complaints. A mechanic who is good at what they do won't be bothered by working on a certain kind of car 99% of the time.

3000 GT and Stealth are almost same car. I like the look of Stealth better myself, and there a way better bargin to buy. 1/3-1/2 the price of 3000. Generally, most Mopars dont hold resale to great.

No, the 300ZX is not AWD, but it did have Super HICAS all-wheel-steering, and the AWD system in the 3000GT/Stealth us fairly useless. Not sure if it's their weight, the width of their tires, or both, but they are NOT useful in the snow.
Car & Driver tested both cars (the 3000GT vs the 300ZX) around Willow Springs "Streets" course in 1990, and there were some interesting assessments...
The cars felt completely different, the 300ZX "rock stable" and "predictable", the 3000GT "too softly sprung" and "nervous".
Now, the lap times are very interesting...they ran identical lap times, but the editors said they way the cars went about accomplishing this was as different as night and day.
The 3000GT/Stealth also are drag limited to 155, whereas the 300ZX (1990 TT model) was computer limited to 155. The car has been shown to run in the mid-170s (stock0 without the limiter.

more power? you guys never drove the good ones... (VR4 aka R/T-Turbo) 320bhp turbo, 6-speed, and AWD. Drivetrains can't take 6-grand AWD clutch dumps very well... (check for abuse.)
It's a heavy GT-style car, very nice in convertible form. Cool engine note with the bypass valves open.
I would *NOT* recomend it in the winter, tyres are too wide. It is a 3-season car. Peroid.
A Lambroghini Diablo VT is AWD too, dosen't mean I'd drive it in the snow.
Get a Subaru, they're fun as all hell in the snow, and will take you *anywhere!*
Best! Ben.

I currently own a WRX and previously owned a 3000 gt twin turbo, with all wheel drive, traction control, anti lock brakes, driver adjustable suspension and four wheel steering. Yes they have four wheel steering. With $3200 of modifications the 3000 turned low 13 second 1/4 mile runs and toped out at 174mph. It is far more car than the subaru can ever hope to be and turns like its on rails. There is company in california that modifies these cars to run mid 11 second 1/4 miles and top 190. While my subaru is fun and fast it is outclassed by the 3000gt.
Anyone ever seen a good rebody/body kit for a subaru? If I could get rid of that uglyness factor it would be sitting in my driveway already! (Well, not really, because that would require to me have money to spent on one, but lets just ignore those details)

Drove a friends Stealth R/T for a while, and that was a blast. fast and manueverable. but I don't think theres a reason to buy either the Stealth or 3000GT unless its an R/T or VR4.. Its a waste other wise
Here is me with a 1991 Stealth RT Twin Turbo PACE CAR! yes, this was the pace car for the 1991 Indy 500 but they pulled it at the last minute because it was a foreign car..I did get to race it and this car was FAST! when this picture was taken the car only had like 150 miles on it.. http://portagecar.com/stealth.jpg
