My TV doesn't have SVHS in but my laptop only has SVHS out - is there any way to convert SVHS to RCA cables or something so I can use my laptop with a non SVHS tv?

are you talking about S-video or SVHS.

SVHS is a video format. Regular vhs tapes at ?? 300 resolution and SVHS tapes at 400-500 resolution. this is out of memory so resolutions might not be correct.
JVC sells videorecorders that tape in SVHS.

S-video is a video connection that is round and has 5-7? pins that hooks directly to the tv. It has no sound, just video. I believe theres a cable where you can make svideo turn into a normal rca video cable.

i guess you can try it.

Ive seen the converter. Its just a S video on one end and a single rca plug on the other.

It might/might not work, because theres more wires on the svideo then rca, if your going to splice it. Unless you want to stop at radioshack

I hate radio shack.
(for numerous reasons, which I will elaborate on if needed)

I had an SVideo->RCA adaptor that I found while working at OfficeMax. It was leftover from a demo PC->TV converter. I know they're out there, just might have to dig a bit. (Check with home automation suppliers too).

Here's one... it's $50, but works both ways (most don't)
http://www.smarthome.com/8299.html

Also, dig around the SmartHome Website for more hookups, adaptors, and the likes...

Here's another for $20! http://www.svideotorca.com/svideorca.html

SVHS has two signals and 4 pins.

two pins are ground, one carrys the color signal (Chromanance) and the other carries the brightness signal (Lumanance).

On an RCA connector both signals are mixed together. Im pretty sure you can take the two signals from the SVHS cable and wire them together to get the 'composite' signal that RCA connectors use.

or if you only connect the Lumanace signal to an RCA connector, you will have a B&W signal.
