Here in Oklahoma, we get our share of souped up imports, which I can handle. The fad in "hot-rods" here that just slays me is the phenomenon that I call "grits-boy", the red neck racers. In my neighborhood there is a Geo Metro with a bigass Flowmaster sticker on the back window. Let me get this straight. We have to modify Flowies for Fieros but they make a model for the freakin GEO? Then the other day drivin home, I see a Dodge DyNasty with, you guessed it, bigass Flowie sticker on the bumper. Not six inches away from where the crappy stamped tin stock muffler was hanging 3 inches off of the pavement. Hoping for a free muffler to go with that sponsorship perhaps?
Now, I have a Flowie, and while I like the sound, it ain't a jetpack. It's just a damn muffler. Why is it that every slack-jawed yokel wishes he had one?
Another ting is those freakin NASCAR decals. Get a Dale Earnhardt bumper sticker and suddenly you can trade paint with the best of them. On the freeway. In rush hour traffic. jeez.

I saw a 'slammed' Dodge Aries. An Aries for cryin out loud. It had been lowered and had the roller skate thing goin on with the spoked rims and low pro tires 75% of which were not under the wheel well. This particular car even had the exhaust by Juan Valdez.
I wonder why Juan doesnt make window stickers to sell with his exhaust tips.

2 nights ago I saw a lowrider.. but it was a FORD TEMPO..
a powder blue, ford tempo.... I didn't get a good look at the exhaust, but it had aftermarket wheels/hubcaps.. and the car was so low I couldn't see the tops of the tires...
I'll try to get a pic of one of my regular customers at the store. Yugo, Walt-Disney-threw-up graphics, dual Bow-tie shaped exhaust, roller skate wheels/tires, Recaro seats, tinted windows, etc. You get the picture. Wish I could post a WAV file. The POS (I use that term loosely) sounds like my weedeater.

One car of honorable mention that I see daily is owned by a guy who works in my building. 88 Firebird Formula, jacked up on its 70 series tires with that "chrome" door edge moulding EVERYWHERE! I'm talkin about around the hood, headlight doors, gas door, the hatch, even along the edge of the spoiler. Add on the "chrome" double blade wipers, chain link liscense plate frame around the sunset scee font plate, and a "Fear This" sticker in the poorly tinted back window, and ya got yerself the prototypical "grits-boy" racer. I'd rather be seen in a Honda with 18" rims and body kit any day.
There's a white 1999 Camaro in my town.. when I first saw it, I thought it looked pretty nice.. except the front end is lowered, and the back end has 20" wheels on it.. the tires are rubbing the quarter panel.. and they stick out a couple inches from the fender wall and they slant out at the bottom.. the back end of the car is jacked up more than 6" from stock.. it looks horrible..
I had seen a 86 T/A (not mine) with 70 seried snow tires all of the way around, (Michelins I think) with chrome wheels and blacked out windows. The worst part was the 5.0 logos on the front GFX off of a mustang and the "Aint Skeered" sticker in the back window.
It was pretty Funny when my friend Steve raced him down the highway in his 2000 firebird (v6 auto) and got passed at 120. I just waved to the guy.

I thought the "Imitation Pro-Stock" look went out of style about 10-12 years ago.
Stimp, ya' make my heart hurt talking about that 88 Formula. I usta have one. Hate to think anybody would put 70s and fake chrome on it. There's normally not a spot of chrome *anywhere* on that car.
You guys should work in the city. You see the funniest things passing through the ghettos. The fake chrome trimming is probably the most popular. 2 door Ford Escort hatchbacks are abundant. Old rusty early 80s lincolns are a HUGE hit. The best is when I raced one in my old Formula. He had a Caprice classic, the back sat up about 8 inches higher then the front. Crappy fake Mag wheels. Stickers EVERYWHERE. I still see him driving around sometimes lol. One thing I have learned about driving around there, those Lexus' can fly with the extra gold package...
p.s. I know of a riced out 4 cyl. Fiero around where I live.

Back in 85 there was a red 84 2m4 running around my neighborhood with gold *deep dish* spoke wheels (Tru-Spoke?) and little bitty whitewall tires that stuck out of the fenders about 4-6 inches. I forgot what other stuff he had hung on it, but it looked silly as he!!. As bad as Fieros bump steer, I don't know how he kept it on the road.
