This is the transcript of the ACTUAL radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95.

Canadians: Please divert you course 15 degrees the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER US LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OF COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call!

Come on, Standard, tell us where you got it. This is hysterical! I'll bet every Canadian member who reads this falls over laughing. Maybe every US member, too.

As a former member of the US Armed Forces (Army not Navy), I'm just embarrassed! To think that some pompous moron with a scrambled egg on his hat would almost make a mistake like that...And to think that the US is the worlds only "superpower". I'm not scared (yet), but I wonder how many other incidents like that have happened. What if it was someone with the nuclear missle key? Can you say, "Armegeddon"????

It's funny for sure, but I remember reading it in Readers Digest "Humor in Uniform" several months ago also. But that does not mean it's not true.

Readers Digests' "Humor In Uniform", "Laughter, the Best Medicine", etc are all supposed to be true.

I recieved that one in email a long while ago, but the ship was given as USS Enterprise. (Aircraft Carrier) That part could have been embellishment, because everyone knows the Enterprise name.

Thats pretty funny I'm stationed on that ship right now. The funny thing is thats a west coast carrier and in 95 it was on deployment for most of the year. Wouldn't suprise me at all knowing the Navy that something like that would happen.

So, ummmmmm..... Newfoundland is on the east coast. Wouldn't that make this story even more implausible?
