Im actually kinda disappointed how it came out. I already removed a bunch of the details in my design to make it stronger, but stuff broke anyway (like the E and left foot). I was gonna do the border but stuff was already breaking so I didn't.
I might try it again next year but do everything negative.

looks good. next time you do it.... just remove maybe half of it... you dont need to carve all the way through to make it light up... just carve the skin and half of whats under it. but good job!

What I do to keep structural integrity in my carving is cut only the skin away. Then I change the depth of the pumpkin "meat" I cut away to make different shadings. This way you can't see the light inside the pumpkin and you can vary the shadings for visual effect. You can make any design you want and your pumpkin doesn't fall apart!
If you ARE going to cut all the way through, cut the smallest details first. Once the big sections are gone, it's not strong enough for detail cutting.

Cool. Perry kicks alotta ass! And you can never watch too much Phineas & Ferb. I'm 39 and i watch it even when my kids aren't around. Bet they'd build one hell-of-a Fiero.
