Well out of the blue I got a call from my uncle's brother yesterday and he said he'd just bought a Fiero for parts for a custom dune buggy he is making, but whatever he was going to use it for didn't work. He knew I had a Fiero so he offered to sell it to me cheap. Mine's an 88 GT, and this parts car is an 84, so I know a lot of the parts don't interchange, but (I'm sure you guys understand) I couldn't pass up another Fiero! When we got it home, I started to analyze it, and it turned out to be quite interesting....

Unloading with the tractor:

The VIN shows it's an 84, notchback and 4 cylinder of course, car 57,030 made that year.
Manual transmission, manual windows, manual mirrors, no tilt steering - very low options (does have a sunroof though)
The body is in nice shape, good sail panels even, but the frame and suspension is pretty well rusted. It was apparently sitting since 1999.

When I finally got the trunk opened, expecting to find a duke, I has pretty dang surprised to see this:

It's a V6! Can someone tell me anything about this engine? I want to say it's an early 2.8, one that didn't come in a Fiero. You can see they had to cut a bit off the middle deck lid vents for the intake to fit.
There was also a for sale sign in the trunk that said it was a V6 and a 5 speed! So I tried putting the shifter through the gears. The clutch was kind of stuck, but the shift pattern was correct for a 5 speed. How can I tell if it's the Isuzu or the Getrag?
There were also some very odd switches on the console (flux capacitor perhaps?):

Oh, and it isn't in bad shape for having 700,000 miles:

Overall, I'm excited to have another Fiero. Even if it won't ever see the road again, at least some parts will help out mine. I'd love to get it running, but the frame is just too far gone.

Trans looks like an Isuzu since both cables come over the top but that;s all I have to go off of. Nice score.

What is that carb off of? The white line between the numbers on the odometer means somebody tried to roll it back, 138,589 looks accurate. Looks like a base coupe or a sport coupe, the 5th character in the VIN would tell you. Transmission looks like an Isuzu.

Clean it up, and start it up!

I got some more information this morning. The car was last registered in 1999, and has been sitting ever since. The engine apparently had a bad rod knock, so they quit driving it at 130,000 miles. Not sure if I should try to start it. It does look like someone tampered with the odometer. I Don't know any more details on the engine or transmission swap, but it is pretty neat that they had an 84 that was a v6 and 5 speed. It's had this engine and transmission since 1999 or earlier, because that's when they tried to sell it (and the for sale sign shows V6 and 5 speed). The rust is also worse than I'd initially thought - the door jambs (on the bottom rear corner on each side) are rusted right through, and there are no trunk corners whatsoever. It makes me feel a lot better about the minor rust on my 88! The drivers side door on this car is off an 87 or 88 car because it has the smooth molding. The VIN is 1G2AE37R0EP257030, showing a base coupe I believe.

The first part I took out for my 88 was an awesome Ferrari key chain (hey, gotta dream big!) - I'll post pictures when I get back home tonight.

Is that engine carb'd? I was trying to figure what it came out of - my old S-10 engine looked just like that but it had the EGR valve in back, near the distributor.

The "X-11" had the hipo engine, but with a carb. Not a lot of the X-cars had a mantrans. A lot of the X-11's did. So mabe they used the good 2.8.

FFierofred is right. My 84 X-11 is a 2.8 V-6 with a 4 speed(4:10 gears). Oddly enough it is swapped into an 84 fiero base coupe & it spun a main bearing on its last street race. I guess I should restore that Citation, not many left anymore. Anyways, good luck with your project. Rick
