Well out of the blue I got a call from my uncle's brother yesterday and he said he'd just bought a Fiero for parts for a custom dune buggy he is making, but whatever he was going to use it for didn't work. He knew I had a Fiero so he offered to sell it to me cheap. Mine's an 88 GT, and this parts car is an 84, so I know a lot of the parts don't interchange, but (I'm sure you guys understand) I couldn't pass up another Fiero! When we got it home, I started to analyze it, and it turned out to be quite interesting....
Unloading with the tractor:

The VIN shows it's an 84, notchback and 4 cylinder of course, car 57,030 made that year.
Manual transmission, manual windows, manual mirrors, no tilt steering - very low options (does have a sunroof though)
The body is in nice shape, good sail panels even, but the frame and suspension is pretty well rusted. It was apparently sitting since 1999.
When I finally got the trunk opened, expecting to find a duke, I has pretty dang surprised to see this:

It's a V6!

Can someone tell me anything about this engine? I want to say it's an early 2.8, one that didn't come in a Fiero. You can see they had to cut a bit off the middle deck lid vents for the intake to fit.
There was also a for sale sign in the trunk that said it was a V6 and a 5 speed! So I tried putting the shifter through the gears. The clutch was kind of stuck, but the shift pattern was correct for a 5 speed. How can I tell if it's the Isuzu or the Getrag?
There were also some very odd switches on the console (flux capacitor perhaps?):

Oh, and it isn't in bad shape for having 700,000 miles:

Overall, I'm excited to have another Fiero. Even if it won't ever see the road again, at least some parts will help out mine. I'd love to get it running, but the frame is just too far gone.
