Hello all. With the weather being so dry in Ohio, i though it would be a good time to replace the headliner in my car. The headliner is in terrible condition because someone installed an aftermarket sunroof and did a terrible job of it. The sun roof leaks and the board underneath the headliner had a hole cut in it that was too big for the smaller sun roof, so the headliner sags all the way around the edge of the sunroof. I was wondering what steps i should take next. should i replace this board material? How would i go about doing so? How do i seal the small leak? Should i replace this headliner with one that was made for a factory sunroof or should I purchase the headliner that is made for a hard top fiero? http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net...9043_741597383_n.jpg

The original sunroof is larger than most aftermarket sunroofs. Get the one for the non sunroof cars and trim to fit. I have the same issue with my headliner, but no leaks. I'm debating whether to convert to factory sunroof, or convert to a solid roof panel.

About 8-9 years ago here someone install a huge after market electric sunroof that lifted out over the back of the car and it wowed us all. Does anyone else remember the thread.

Well i took the old headliner off and i believe i found the source of the small leak. I believe the gasket is the problem. The only problem is trying to find a new one. This project is becoming way more fun than i thought it would be Dont the headliners that arent cut for sunroofs have two bump outs for heads on them? Would this make it harder to work with? Do you know any information on the after market sunroof? Any info would be great! I to have thought about converting it to a stock sunroof, but i dont know anything about doing that kind of swap haha. Haha the power sunroof is pretty cool!

If you want to fix your head liner take it out and re-stiffen back with fibreglass or even paper machete and re-foam it with upholstery rubber and cover it leaving the cut out part to be tucked into the inside frame to tighten it. There are threads for fixing the head liner i did mine in suede it isn't too hard and can be done really cheap.

You may want to swap in an original unmolested roof panel, sunroof or not. Not an easy job but it can be done and would be about the best way to fix it properly. The trick is to get your replacement off without cracking it at the windshield pillar/roof transition. It’s best to do this on a hot summer day because the SMC panel will be glued to the steel around the windshield. With some fishing line/piano wire/windshield removal tool, and lots of patients it can be done, i did. Once you get your donor roof off the rest is fairly easy and straightforward. Rip off crap one, put on good one. Then of course you would have to paint it to match.

Ya know if it were me and I had this problem I think I would seriously look into getting a nice NEW sunroof and install it myself. I used to have a close friend who had a real sweet refurbished VW beetle and it had a fabric sliding sunroof in it. That thing was so damn nice and looked so cool when it was open. I know there are modern versions of these that work with electronic motors to open and close and they are very well made and watertight. I think it would be really cool to get one of those and install it in the Fiero. The pictures of that one with the large aftermarket sunroof are also appealing. The power open and close is a very desirable option and I think if I ever got to the point where my factory sunroof would not work I would have to look seriously into getting something like either of those two options. To me a Fiero is just so nice with the sunroof out and the windows down on a nice day that I cannot imagine swapping in a solid roof. JMHO....peace

Pete
