I am just wondering. Most of the old sports cars have their steering wheels pointed somewhere in the air(Ferrari) or just casually set up like pretty much 90% of the cars today and on a Fiero you can pretty much set it so it's pointing to your balls(well it actually felt that way the first time I dropped it all the way down though in reality it's parallel to the ground).
And since I love my wheel pointing very low I am wondering - what other cars have their steering wheel positions low?
I really don't know of any American built vehicle around that time period that has the wheel positioned like the Fiero does.
I do know one thing though. Having a Fiero without the tilt column option is a REAL chore to operate, especially getting in and out of. Most Fiero owners haven't experienced this because non-tilt was more common in the '84 models, but all Fieros could be purchased without the tilt wheel. I like that when I get in and out I can just pull the tilt lever and let the wheel flip all the way up. Without tilt column in the Fiero it's like having to work your legs to get positioned enough to rotate yourself out of the car.

I have tilt wheels in all my cars except the SuperBee. I find the position that would be normal (right angle to shaft as in a non tilt one) is usually the best. I set it when I buy the car and never change it so tilt is useless to me.

Yeah well that's not exactly what I meant. A lot of cars that have tilt columns don't go anywhere near as low as the Fiero. And I'm looking for more cars with the steering wheel pointing very low.
The steering on my 2003 Cadillac DTS (not a sports car, but considered sports touring, and has 300 HP Northstar engine) has power tilt with the same range of motion as my 1988 Fiero GT, plus it has a power extension and retraction feature in the range of 2".
------------------ Now new owner of a Black TTop 88 Fiero GT and owner of a Silver 88 Fiero GT. Also a second time owner of an 85 Fiero GT. Bought my first fully loaded Red Fiero GT new in 1985. Fiero's are Fabulous, Fix'em and have Fun! Note, Avatar picture is Mr. Bean (not me, ha ha).
My 87 firebird was adjustable to the point that it was at a 90* angle to the ground just like my 84 fieros tilt wheel. Only difference was the distance from the seat of the fiero and the seat of the bird to the bottom of the steering wheel bottom. I think the seat was closer to the bottom of the steering wheel in the fiero, but I can't be 100%. But the angles of adjustability were identical. Once I put the PMD seats in the bird I think the distances were identical.
I can't run with my steering wheel all the way down anymore with the darn race buckets... they sit up higher the way the tracks had to be fitted to the seat and car. Now my thighs are in the way when the wheel is all the way down.

Poly all round & Black Drag DR-34s Frt: 225/45 on 18x8 (47 offset w/ 8-9mm spacer) 1.5 coils cut off 1984 WS6 springs Rear: 265/35 on 18x8.5 (45 offset) Coil-overs w/ 10 inch 300lb springs & 7 inch sleeve
I don't think it's so much related to the wheel angle as the seat hieght in relation to the wheel angel. The Fiero seats sits up closely to the wheel due to the low profile of the car. Other cars have a higher profile so the wheel is set up further in the dash so when the wheel is tilted all the way down it won't feel as close as it does in the Fiero, because your not sitting up as high in comparison. Atleast that's what it felt like when I had my Fiero. So I'd have to agree with her.

My 82 TA was the same way as well as my parents 89 Camaro RS.
