New compressors are bad enough. Rebuilt are generally pretty worthless. The critical thing is to flush the system with some good solvent until it comes out completely clean. Use the right type and amount of oil and a new orifice tube and dryer. Look at the solvent in sunlight to see when you get all the glitter (metal) out. That's the only way you have any chance of having an A/C system last. After that it's pretty much luck since you have no control over the quality of the new compressor. I've generally purchased new GM compressors but am on my 3rd one on my truck with less than 10,000 miles. I know a guy at a big A/C place and he claims that the new China compressors have a lower failure rate than the GM ones. It tells you something when the auto parts stores drop the lifetime warranty and now you're doing good to get a one year.
