I just watched his headlight rebuild series. My question is, where he put the jb weld, is that where the piece that stops the motor when it goes down is? I havent torn mine apart yet so Im not sure. I just keep seeing talk about the "stops" or "bumpers" that stop the motor at the up or down stoping points. I have an 86 se gen 1 system. THanks in advance!

I watched one of Buddy's headlight rebuild video a while back and don't remember anything about JB Weld and I just rebuilt one of my headlight motors a few weeks ago without any problems needing JB Weld. That is a pretty powerful glue and I would hesitate putting it anywhere inside the headlight.
I think the bumpers you keep hearing about are the four hard rubber pieces that go inside the gear and absorb the energy when the motor hits the end of it travel. The originals are green and break down to a green, oily sand substance that you must clean out before replacing. You can buy replacements from Rodney as part of the kit, which includes a replacement metal gear (instead of a nylon gear like the original) or as just the bumpers.

I believe that Buddys method eliminates the soft plastic bushings that were originally put inside the gear. While this will work I would prefer to have some kind of cushioning there that would save the gear from eventaual shock damage. Outside of that one point Buddys vids are the best.

It sounds like he was trying to replace the bumpers with the JB Weld. I'm not sure how well that would work.
Works just fine but.... As somebody else said. The shock to the plastic gear is too much. Buy a rodney kit. Use buddy's method till you get to the jb. Then just use the black bumpers.

So your saying that I can use the weld and order rodneys kit? Does his come with that black piece that does on top of that gear? If so,I will do that this weekend. Thanks again guys!

Yes, that was exactly the problem I had. I replaced the gear with the metal gear in Rodney's rebuild kit and used his black rubber bumpers and the headlight works fine.
Just be careful to put it back together correctly. I had a little trouble with the rubber seal at the top of the motor. Make sure it is in the correct position or the motor will not shut off. I had the rubber seal on the shaft but completely outside the case and is stopped the motor shaft from moving enough to shut the motor off. Once I placed the seal correctly it worked fine.
It's an easy fix and Rodney's kit comes with complete instructions and all of the parts you need. Make sure you get the complete kit, gear and all.
