So the short story is I found rims I want to buy and the bore is 56.1 and I believe the fiero bore is 56.5? Is it a bad idea to bore out the rim .4? Its not much, what are your thoughts?

It can absolutely be done, people do it frequently to fit Subaru, Scion TC, or Celica wheels to the Fiero. The center bore for the Fiero is 57.1mm, I believe.

It is notable that 5x100 VW wheels (from the Jetta, etc) fit, as they have offsets around the 35-40 range and a 57.1mm center bore as well.

Simply visit any reputable machine shop and they should be able to do it for you. Last time I looked it was something like $30 a wheel.

If it is an aftermarket rim, then they probably have a removable ring in the inside. Just remove it and either run them lug centered or purchase the right rings.

My 2nd set of Mille Miglia M11 rims came from a celica and had the smaller rings. Just took them out and been running them ever since.

Thanks guys! There aftermarket rims for a wrx so I don't believe they have a removable ring, but you never know? If anything i'll just bore them out.

You're probably right. When I was shopping for wheels, I ran into quite a few that were "Subaru specific", and had the 56.1 centerbore.
The reason they didn't just use the big centerbore and the reducer rings is that Rally rules supposedly wouldn't allow it. The centerbore had to match the hub without any kind of adapter ring.

I had the same issue with my Scion TC wheels. The Scion wheels are 1mm to small of a hole to fit the Fiero. I took them to a local machine shop, along with the doughnut, so they could take precise measurements from that. (Doughnut was a lot easier to transport to get measurements from than a full size rim and tire ) I think the total came to something like $75 to get them all bored out.

Here's a snap of the bored out rims, while JimmyS was over to help with the side scoop install.
