This past Saturday (October 8th) Capitol City Fiero Club, Capitol City Solstice Club, and Capitol City Sky Club got together for a cruise from Mason to Hell and on to Jackson, Michigan. There were 30 cars - 25 Soltice/sky and 5 Fieros. We enjoyed the twisty, tree-lined roads in the lake country northeast of Jackson. The fall colors were close to peak, and the weather was a perfect Michigan Indian Summer day.
It was interesting to look at the turboed Ecotecs in the GXP and Redlines, and the various modifications the other orphan-owners had made to their cars.
The Fieros also raised some eyebrows with the newer car owners, as we were represented by an LS3/F40 85 bumperpad, a 3800SC/4T65E-HD 88 GT, a 4.9/4T60E 88 Formula, a 2.8/4T60 88 base coupe and a 2.8/Getrag 87 SE .
The Capitol City Sky Club did a wonderful job in planning the event and the route, everyone had a great time, and we all made some new friends.
It was a beautiful day for a cruise in the country. As we did last year we went through Hell, MI. It was a lot of fun riding with the Solstice's and Sky's. All of the orphaned two seater GM cars were represented there except the Buick Reatta. As Joe said some were the regular or N/A engines and some had the turbo's on them. On the second leg of our trip one of the Turbo powered Sky's was taking off hot from just about every stop. It sounded pretty good, but I think I can still pull him with my 3800 SC III engine. Joe was behind one of the Turbo cars too with his 4.9 and he didn't think the turbo Solstice's were all that fast. Maybe someday we can talk some of them to come to Spartan Speedway for the Capital City Corvette Club's run, then we would be able to see with a little objectivity which was the fastest around the course.
My wife made her first cruise in her 88 Notchie with the recently installed 2.8 with a 4T60 tranny. She loved the corners and she is getting so she can get it around pretty good. She had her T-Tops off all day long enjoying the sunshine and nice weather.
I was going to use my Hero Camera, but for some reason the battery was dead and I could not get any batteries when I found out so I didn't get the videos I really wanted. It was pretty impressive with a whole string of cars winding through lower Michigan. On the last leg of the run I ran second to last and I could see the cars as they bent around the curves.
We, the Fiero group, are invited back again next year and we, the Capital City Fiero group invited them to join us at our Driving the Excitement for 2012, including the trip to MIS to run on the track again. If you go to our web site (Capital City Fieros) you will notice some new additions. Bob has added areas on the site to include the Solstices and Skys. So we hope to keep up the good relations with them in the future. After all we are orphans now and there will never be any new Fieros, Solstices or Skys.
There must have been one here in S.E. Ohio on or about the same day. My shop is on SR#26 and as I was headed to it, I passed 10 Sky/Solstice's. There were two groups of 5, about 1/2 mile apart. Didn't see where the plates were from, but also didn't see any front plates, and Ohio uses a front and rear. Could've been from WV, as we are on the state line, boardering the Ohio river. Didn't see any other cars represented, but had to be a ralley of somesort.

Wow. that sounds like exactly what my area needs. I've always wanted to mix the cars together and cruise with both. Unfortunately there aren't that many events that are Sky and Solstice related in my area let alone mixing it with Fieros. Although the Fiero community is strong here. My biggest problem is choosing which one to bring. But nothing would be more awesome then to cruise with both types of cars.
