Hello, I am in need of a new "solid back" headliner for my 86 GT with a sunroof & 3rd brakelight. I bought a stock one from Antuzzi, but it is not in the greatest shape. Not his fault, just the way it came out of the car, it's age, flexibility ect. It would be virtually impossible to glass it over, as there is no contour really left in it, and not rigid enough to have the correct shape.

I see The Fiero Store has an ABS one, but read in a thread some time ago that it did not fit all that well, and over all dissatisfaction with it. However, compared to the one below, the Fiero Store's site states: "Note: All ABS headliner boards come with pre-cut holes in the board for dome lights, visor bracket openings, etc."

Here is one I found on eBay made out of fiberglass.

I don't know if they are here on the forum or not, they go by rchee on eBay. Does anyone have any experience with this one on how well it fits and such?
I do not need it covered, painted and such, as I am going to do that custom to match my interior.

Does anyone on the forum make the headliners?

On a last note, what are the noise concerns with a hard cover headliner? The stock one seems like it would also work to help dampen road noise and such. Is there much room to put some sound deadening matt, or spray bed liner type stuff either on the roof, or the back of the headliner, and not interfere with installation?

Thanks for any tips and suggestions!

First off, the Fiero Store ABS one is $214.00 which is a complete rip off. Then add $60.00 to ship it to my location in California and it becomes a laugh. For Archie to only charge $110.00 plus shipping for a fiberglass unit that will probably last a lifetime is a great deal.

Lol! I didn't put that together... it probably is rchee = 'are~chee' Makes sense!

That is probably whey the shipping is a bit high on that eBay auction, he ONLY uses UPS. I tried to get him to send my fiberglass dash via Grayhound (1/3rd the price) and he insisted that buses were for people!

EDIT: @ IMSA GT, yea, he puts out fantastic products, no doubt about that. I am no craftsman, and would worry about trying to get all the mounting holes in the correct places and such, with no existing headliner as a template. So I am weighing any and all options out there before I decide to drop a couple hundred bucks is all.

As for getting it in the car, are there any issues getting a solid headliner in through the door of the Fiero? I wouldn't think the windshield would need to be taken out, but I have to ask, as I have never tried.

It will fit through the door... The seats will already be removed because you have to remove them to remove the B-pillar trim...

Try to find a decent stock board, it doesn't have to be perfect and resin it... If you find one that out of shape, install it before you brush on the resin; then remove it and resin it again (both sides)...

Thanks, I wasn't sure, so figured I had better ask

Trying to find a Fiero in a junk yard here, is virtually impossible, not to mention one with a sunroof as well. Shipping one is not an easy option either. Thus, I am most likely gonna go with a prefab/fiberglass/ABS one.

ALJR,

I just replaced my headliner with one from the Fiero Store. You do not need to remove the seats to remove or install the B-Pillar trim. And only the trim from either the passenger side OR the driver's side needs to be removed at all. Installation is probably easier with one side of the trim still in place.

I didn`t know that Archie sold headliners.
I think I will order his and then have it covered locally.
That way if the fabric sags I can take it back to the shop without shipping.
