I just came across this while checking CL for random Pontiac stuff, It looks the same as the cylinder head off of the duke in my Indy except this one has never been used. Anyway, just thought you might find it interesting. http://daytona.craigslist.org/pts/2532808939.html

Would it have any kind of performance increase over a semi-stock head?

If I had the money, I would seriously consider it.

I saw this a while back too. I think it's still the same price too. The featured the car on Powerblock a while back, it was pretty interesting.

$200 for a stripped Duke head? Maybe this was the top secret 100 mpg / 250HP head that Smokey was working on! I spoke to a guy who drove the original Duke Hot Vapor engined Fiero and he did say that it had a bit more power than a stock Duke but it only got 40 MPG. Smokeys claim was that his secret engine made 250HP and got 50 MPG. The secret hot vapor chamber was a turbocharger (hence the additional power) and I believe that it was placed within the air/fuel stream, meaning that it was a pull though application

Smokey answered only to the bigwigs at GM,and the hot vapor motor was built with prototype parts and the best he could find i'll bet (though GM had nothing to do with it)
If nothing else, smokey having it means it's been through a flowbench (smokey invented the flowbench) and tweaked till he got everything out of it that it had.
I'll dig through his autobiography and see if I can find the info on the work he did on the hot vapor/fiero stuff.
I know it was mentioned, but it's a big book and though i've read it twice it's been awhile.
If it were closer to me I would at least go look at it simply because it was smokey.
