My old Fiat 124 had it under the back seat. Fiat claimed it was the safest place for it to be, collision-wise. The Fiero location seems even better in that regard. Go to any salvage yard and look. Cars are wrecked, totalled, beat up beyond recognition, but the center of the car will be intact. Crash study experts refer to this space as "room to live".

17.5 US gallons.
The tank is very similar to how the Fiero's is setup. It's long and more 'square-ish' though and the rear of the tank has a sort of bubble (so when the fuel slooshes to the back under hard acceleration).

My old 90 Ford Probe GT had it under the rear seat also. What a piece of cake to change the fuel pump - pull up the seat and it was right there.

Thank you. Now I need to find some pics?

Which is fantastic... unless you're a 4WS model (MX6)... five gallons smaller with a hump to clear the 4WS backup shaft, and dual pumps, one on the left for lifting, one on the right is actual fuel pump...
The MR2 unit is quite similar to hours, but slimmer and taller. It's also a bit more annoying to remove, there's far more stuff underneath it than on our cars.
