I can't help you out, but just had to comment on something that I see on PFF all the time (not picking on you....really, I'm not). The guys name was Gary Zumalt, not Zumwalt. That is the name that Archie (I believe) gave him and it seems to have stuck. I don't know Mr. Zumalt or Archie for that matter, but it's just one of those things that makes me cringe when I see it.....no idea why though.

I hope someone can answer your question.

I harbor no feelings towards him either.....just me being anal (sorry to interrupt your thread). And yes......99.9% of people here will know who/what you are referring to.

Gary Zumalt is long out of business. There is no support or replacement parts available. I believe V8 Archie is the sole domestic source for SBC V8 kits. The two kits are not interchangable and most all new SBC swaps are using Archies kits these days.

I have a zumalt kit, but I am using a 4 spd so I can't answer your question either, street dreams should know the answer if nobody here does. They sell a flex plate on their site. http://www.streetdreamsbyross.com/fiero.php

I have a Zumalt kit installed on mine as well. I'm not sure if you meant specifically if a spacer is needed for the flexplate in an automatic, or the flywheel in a manual, as some people tend to confuse both terms. If you truely meant a flexplate, then I can't answer your question, however if you meant flywheel, then no spacer is required however a special flywheel is.

I had a TPI 350 4spd Fiero that was originally built with with the Zumalt kit. When we rebuilt the car and took a closer look at the parts, I was impressed with the design and quality of the kit. One thing I thought was nice was that with the position of the motor/trans was far enough left that no shock tower modification was needed for the TPI setup. While I know this was not a very helpful post, I just thought I would share my opinion of the kit and if you can find one in good shape I would definitely consider it a viable option for a v8 swap kit.
Thanks,

Nathan

Gary Zumalt was a neighbor of mine before I moved to Wyoming, he is actually a nice guy although a little strange, arent we all, his work is stellar i.ve seen it first hand, this is an 85 SE auto i've driven this car and worked on it it truely is nice. I remember he was actually looking at getting back in to fieros about six months ago, but hadnt found a solid one he liked.
oh and it was running stock caddy trans and motor so it'd be like running a 4t65 on a 3800
