Today I went to see an 87 GT with an older 3800SC Series II swap and a 4T65eHD automatic transmission. Light modifications to the engine.

Some other good upgrades/mods, such as:
- Front GrandAm brake upgrade
- Suspension upgraded with PU, lowering springs, new shocks, rear coilovers, front/rear Fierostore swaybars
- New and better radiator
- Custom exhaust

Test drive was nice, great sound, good power, car feels tight regarding steering and suspension. Brakes are OK but veer to the left under braking. Some belt squeal. Most gauges don't work. The engine ECM and some wiring are loosely tucked under the trunk carpet.

Overall condition is rather rough, as it has been a daily driver for at least the past 5 years. GT taillight look pretty good, though, and the GT quarter windows only have smaller imperfections. Paint is chipped or scratched in places. Interior is not in great shape with interior trim becoming unglued. Seats look strange, maybe some sort of covers on them. Had minor hits on drivers side door and passenger side rear.

What would it be worth to you?

id say 3500.00 - 4500.00 would seem reasonable to me, the pictures must not make the downsides to the car that apparent, so far as i can tell, it looks pretty clean, and sounds like it wouldnt take much work to clean up the negatives.

I had 5k to play with when I bought my 88 gt..

I would have had no problem handing all of it over to him if the a/c worked and they paint was in good enough shape to be worked back to a shine..

A/C works but the car needs a repaint and work on the interior. Also electrical/wiring work to put the ECM in a better place and make the gauges work.

Unglued trim is nothing if the rest is fine. Dash cracks or any vynil cut is not good. That interior looks pretty decent. If you drove the car and felt tight that is also another good thing. Making the engine pretty and routing things is also not a big deal if engine is running good. Also the exterior looks very stright. To me the color has a $1K discount but that is me. I think a $4.5k-$5.5k is very fair and anything less that $4.5k a steal. All the hard work is done. Go get a 2nd one

I was thinking $4500 would be a pretty good price.

Don't want a 2nd one. Would be like getting a 2nd wife... :-)

3800 SC would go into the yellow Fiero (mated to the Getrag) and I would sell it on with the 2.8L. But I think I'll rather have a fresh install...

Ehh, why would you buy a running driving car just to steal the motor out of it?

I think the fresh install would be a better route. It would be nice having it all just drop and swap, but the problem you get into is the 2.8, even though it bolts to the 4t65e, it can't run it, so you would have to do a transmission swap on the auto car to get the system running. Then you would have to get a whole new 2.8 wiring harness and computer, or just computer and remake your harness. Then you will have to change the 3800sc harness for the manual and get it tuned, then you have to hope that when they did the swap the engine mount wasn't super custom or you might have to rebuild it to fit the getrag mounts. Then your left with a good chunk of pieces to build a 3800sc auto swap and you 5 speed car.

I have recently converted my auto 3800sc car to a stick and have some of the pieces that make up the worth of the auto car just sitting in my garage doing nothing...

Good luck with a swap, I would say that your car looks too exotic to be putting a 3800 into, I would go with a turbo 3400 or turbo 3.4tdc if you can manage, they would just fit the feel of your car a little better.

I agree with the others, $4500 seems to be the ballpark... Anything under would be a bonus!

I agree...engine on cradle swap looks easy but you still have to hookup wiring, fuelpump, hoses, flywheel+clutch and a pcm retune for the trans...the different trans setup needs parts and work so this drivetrain is less 'drop-in' anyway... looking at the engine pic I know you would want to cleanup/paint it and cleanup wiring too, starting with a swap engine and build it to your likes may be a better way
Or find a 3800SC+getrag Fiero...
good luck

The swap would be way harder to do than its worth for $50 worth of scrap metal welded together. The fact that you would have to play musical transmissions is enough for me to not even consider it.

LOL! I hear you. Almost lost mine when I got the 3rd one For such a nice car as yours I think it would be better to do a fresh install up to par with the rest of your car. Get that one cheap, flip it and use the cash for the swap

The guy wants way too much for it anyways: $6.5k firm.

I had a talk with Whodeanie yesterday and I'm also in touch with the Haus of Guru. Still have to decide where to take my car for the swap and a few other things.
