I am currently in Arkansas in a motel with my ears ringing like a bell. My 3800SC runs like a dream. It hiccuped twice today but otherwise, it runs very well. The tranny will have to be replaced. My problem is this: The exhaust is 2.5" mandrel tubing and a Flowmaster muffler. Somewhere between BFE NM and BFE TExas, it got LOUD. Mike Gonzalez made a great system and it is intact--I checked it this evening. I think the engine blew out what little sound deadening it had. So what is a cure for that when ig et back home?

Second problem is the new fuel pump developed a loud high pitched whine that is at the frequency of my tinnitus. I had to buy ear plus today because I value my hearing. IS there any way to deaden the fuel pump noise? If I can't deaden the exhaust and fuel pump, I'll have to sell the car because I value my hearing more than the car.

First make sure your pipes are all together. I've seen some done up with a compression joint that after the first few heating cycles loosens up. My dad's new dodge did it within a month of owning it. So there's no reason to point a finger at anything other than the behavior of metals. check the connections in the exhaust for something that may have loosened off after stretching from the heat. Second on the fuel pump it may be the "pulsator" located above the pump making the noise or it could be a fault in the pump.

There is no pulsator in a high pressure high flow setup car.... What brand fuel pump is in your car? The walbros will make that noise and there is nothing you can do about it.

As far as the exhaust, you can feel around the pipes as you do a cold start for puffs of air.

Sounds like your exhaust came loose at some point and you are hearing an exhaust leak. The fuel pump could be on its way out. I have heard a few whine loudly right before they went out.

If you come anywhere near Greenville Tx then shoot me a PM....

Sudden change in either indicates issues. For the exhaust I would say a leak due to a poor connection/weld that is causing it to be louder than normal. The fuel pump sounds like it is struggeling to provide flow. This could be the screen in the tank or filter being clogged to the pump on the edge of failing. With a relitively new pump I would first check the filter. If it is full of junk change it. If you still have the noise you may need to drain the tank and check the screen on the pick-up tube.

What is you schedule for coming through the Jackson area?
