In the description it says that it is wider. I'm wondering how much wider than stock it is. I have some factory width molding, but I want some that is 1/4-1/2 inch wider.
The original is probably brittle and will break off in chunks. If you can get it all out without damaging the windshield, then you can just put the new seal in its place.

I put one in twice.. it looks to be the same size as the factory strip.. if you want a wider strip, maybe contact a window place, I got a fatter one from a glass place.

That's a new product eh? I bought their window molding last year (so its probably the "old" version) and was very happy with it.
I suspect they just buy the material in bulk and for some reason the new stuff is wider.
When I had my car painted, the shop installed a new windshield and used the Fiero Store molding I provided. They said it was the right stuff because often the aftermarket molding is "too wide". Their words, not mine. Why its a problem, I don't know. Maybe its tough to install when its too wide?

I just bought some and it's superior to the stuff the PO had installed. That said, it needs a relatively deep groove to go down into. Getting butyl rubber out of that groove is a PITA. I need to go back and re-work mine.

We bought the Fiero Store's windshield gasket, got it half installed, and decided it looked horrible. It was not wide enough to cover the paint fade from where the old gasket was placed. We went to the local glass place and they charged us $.30 a foot for gasket that was twice as wide.

I had my windshield replaced last year by safelite and they used a 5/8" universal molding...looks awesome. I think they will sell you the molding seperate if you need it.
The molding I have is 7/16" wide. I'm pretty sure it is just like the factory. I have a whole box of it because that's how it was sold. I used it in the headliner opening and the bottom side of the rear window. I don't really want to buy a whole box of wider molding for just the windshield. I'll talk to some of the local body shops and find out what they can get. Thanks for the link IMSA GT, but I already have my windshield installed, and that molding is for use as you install the windshield.

I tried for years to get a replacement molding to stay in my Ferrari kit. I used all kinds of adhesives and they all failed. The only way I got one to stay permanently was installing it with new glass all at the same time. Even Safelite had trouble with it and had to redo it a second time with a second windshield (free). They tried to pull out the new windshield to replace the trim, but it shattered. They showed me there is a little lip on the rubber that goes behind the glass. They mounted the trim to the glass and dropped it in together into the butyl sealer. They pointed out that theres no way to insure that lip goes behind the glass by just pushing the seal into the groove. The lip keeps it pinned behind the glass so it wont squeeze out when it shrinks out in the sun.
