I have an 85gt, and I'm planning an engine swap in the very, very near future. I have researched exstensivly and I'm torn between 2 different motors. My choices are a 3.4pr with performance upgrades and a 7730 ecm, or a 3800sc and OBD II. Here's the BIG problem. I bought the car and it didn't run. I've never gotten to drive/ride in a fiero with the 2.8 so I have no basis for comparison on which engine I should go with. I know the pr3.4 is a nice upgrade from stock, and the 3800sc is a beast, but without real world experience I'm terrified to drop a couple $,$$$ and then live with the "what if" and be disapointed in the car. I have to start the swap soon before the "donated" garage is taken. So my request in case you haven't caught on and left the thread allready is this. Is there anyone in the central Michigan area that has a 2.8 or 3.4pr or 3800 fiero that will give me a ride or possibly even allow me the pleasure of test driving there car. I know that this is asking quite a bit but it would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you- Luke

I know you asked for "real" driving experiences, but I'm offering this from the perspective of the owner of a moderately built up 3.4.

The 3.4 pushrod is a noticeable, but modest, increase over the 2.8.
If you throw some money at it (cam, head and intake porting, trueleo intake and headers) you can make it nicely quick.
The right combination of parts may get you around 210 or so at the crank. (Oreif has built two of them.)

A 3800 SC II starts out at ~230-240 at the crank and can be built on out from there. Lots of bolt ons available.
Would be my choice.
Will probably be my next choice.

I wasn't really expecting to drive anyones car. I was mostly hoping to ride in one with any of the engines mentioned. I build up I planned for the 3.4 was going to put me at around 180hp (crank). I drove my sisters Aroura with the 3400. Those run around 200hp and I've finally decided that the 3800sc is the way to go. I'll leave it stock for a while, and when I get the urge for more power later then I'll start throwing parts and tuning at it.

Thanx for the replies- Luke
