Gauging interest in doing a high-gloss urethane decal for the Tyler Shipman Memorial Car Show. I am thinking of doing two designs. The black background one on the left would have a chrome-embossed Pegasus in the middle (shown in white). The design on the left would be a simpler black copy on yellow background. The actual size will be designed to match and fit into the Fiero nose emblem plastic bezel. Size measures approximately 2.066" x 2.625". Material starts with a 3M base bright chrome polyester and 3M adhesive for applying pretty much to anything as long as the surface is clean and dry. The material is printed and than poured with a automotive industry grade urethane. THESE "STICKERS" WILL BE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY OEM QUALITY. The urethane has UV inhibitors to reduce fading in the sun and chemically resistant. They have passed the automotive industry 10-year life-cycle testing. Think of the original Fiero urethane namplates.
Now, would you buy one? Which design or would you consider both? Would you pay $5.00 per decal?
After I recover my upfront costs and break even on my expenses, I will be be making a donation to the show charity.
Well what you you think?
Thanks, Jeff
I apologize for the poor quality picture I could not download a pdf file of the designs, so took a picture of a printed paper..

I like yellow one. We would buy at least 5 I'm sure at 5 bucks a pop. are you sure that is enough? I'm sure my family would probably also buy some. very cool!

I like the one on the left because of the yellow on black but I really really like the one on the right once I visualize the Black tinted window it'll be on. I'd take many. Probably something like 10 of them.

Cheap Bump. Even if you wouldn't buy one, which design do you like?
Interesting, the yellow background with black copy seems more popular. At the monthly MFF meeting it was just the opposite. But I did have examples of embossed chrome and black decals. I am thinking a 50/50 run of both.
For next year I would remove the "1st Annual" and replace the "2010".
Thanks to those who have responded so far.

I'd buy 4 at $5 each. they both are good looking. the all yellow one relates more to Tyler's Toy. but the black one looks like an official logo. I'd go for 2 of each I suppose.
Edit your image to include a black backdrop to simulate a tinted window behind them. you'll see the tables turn to the yellow one.
How is this this?. Similar colors on actual existing decals. Theses have the urethane on them. The lighting is not the best and the yellows are two different shades. The chrome and black Orange County is embossed.

not trying to stir but something like this should only be available to those that attend. We have Tyler memorial decals two others ran and sold for no profit. These are great decals that should be shown proud by those who went to the memorial show.

In all do respect. That is a HORRIBLE idea.....Just because I cant shell out 1500 bucks to get to frazee means I should not have a sticker? Im getting a sticker....

Agreed. The whole concept of helping Tyler is not casting anyone out, you know? I think it's cool to have something special for those who can make it, but in the end it's not nice to cast anyone out just because they can't be there. Maybe we could have them available at the show, and not available to everyone else until after the show? Since they are for the show I think that makes the most sense

I like the yellow design, and as a suggestion, why not size some as front-fender (ferrari-style) mounting. Badging in that location isnt my thing, but some guys do like it.

This is not designed to be a for “profit” project. Given the resources available to me I thought there would be some interest in a nice souvenir of the car show. A lot a people feel a connection to Tyler and his story for a large variety of different reasons. Whether it is you were part of the build, made a donation to the build, a car enthusiast who understands the passion people have for cars, or you merely were touched by Tyler’s story. Would you deny them a lasting memento merely because they were unable to attend the car show?
One of the reasons for the post was to truly gauge interest as I have to personally invest around $1,000.00 of my own money upfront to get these things made. The other decals were nice but of less expensive materials and construction that doesn’t require hard tooling like multiple cavity steel rule dies and embossing dies. I could do a similar construction with these but I clearly wanted to do something a step above. The urethane pour and embossed metallic logo helps do this. It is upfront costs and risks that have kept me from offering similar products to the Fiero community in the past. Wheel center caps being an example.
As I originally stated, I will make a donation to the show charity after I recover my upfront costs and break even on my expenses. My upfront $1,000 noted above doesn’t include my design time and work to this point. My concern limiting to the day of show could result in a bigger hit than I anticipated. Ideally, pre-show sales might allow me to hit my break even point before the show so that I can turn the remaining decals over to the bank handling the show registration. A bank in Frazee is collecting and handling the money from the car show registration to keep it separate from our club. The bank is donating their time to do so.
Limiting decal sales to the car show and after only muddies the separation between me trying to break even and the charity. Mailing cost and packaging materials is a whole other thing I have not taken into consideration plus my time to handle. It would be a lot less risky adventure for my family to make a straight donation. But we have already done that on multiple occasions.
And for every one’s information. These decals are not in production mainly due to the upfront costs and risk of recovery. I have already missed a lead-time date for having them for the Minnesota Club show the end of June. This has only further caused us to hesitate in proceeding. I have to finalize my decision within the next 24 hours.

The fender size decal was consider early on, but dismissed. The size is more expensnive and less subtle. Unfortunately, additional production costs and tooling expenses creates a greater risk of recovery when measured against what the end demand would be for multiple sizes. It just is not worth it. The way I am currently designing the current two decal offerings allows for multiple design applications and changes, within the same footprint, for the future.

Thanks Tony. If I decide to move forward how would you feel if I hand delivered your set? May be going to Boundry Waters Dam by Metaline Falls the week of July 4th. Father son trip after his week of X-country training at University of Oregon in Eugene. I spent the summer of 1967 there while my Dad labored on the Dam. Beautiful part of the country with a lot of fond memories.
Back on topic. For those of you concerned about me profiting on the project. This hand delivery WOULD NOT be considered an expense against my upfront costs.

I would be honored! Actually, there is a Fiero picnic @ FieroKing's that day. I bet that if I put in a few more hours working on Dogcreek's LS4, I can earn you guys a plate!
geff i didn't mean you were selling for profit I understood where you cost where going just never knew they were so high. Now knowing that I fully understand your point and applaud all you are doing. I am interested in adding to my Tyler support and actually hope to make it up there if I am running by then. IF you do start selling them I would definitely like two to fly proud.

I'd buy one of each at the show, which brings the total (only posted in this thread) to 43. I'm sure that number would double if not triple come July 27th.
As of today, parts are in production. I am producing a 50/50 split order of both versions. They will not be ready until July 15th so most likely pre-show sales will be limited. It would have been nice to have them for our MFF Show this weekend but it was not meant to be. Project has been delayed due to my production artist being on vacation and convincing the family treasurer about the up front costs.
Quantities will be limited and sold on a first come first serve basis. I will set aside some parts for mail order requests as per this posting. In an effort to keep costs down, mail orders will be sent out by 1st Class Mail and I would hope people would be honest enough not to say they didn't receive them. Details will follow later.
Thanks to all for you input and to those who have expressed a desire for them I do not think you will be dis-appoint4edwill not be disappointed.
I will buy mine at the show. Thanks for doing this.
That’s great. I would actually prefer that you buy next weekend in person at the Show, with cash. No shipping hassles. Don't worry, I will have plenty available especially for those who, like you, contributed to the original Tyler build and made this wonderful story possible.
Hopefully, I should have plenty available. I had to buy a lot to make the price work out and I really don't anticipate selling out. I hope they do, but I am just trying to break even and recover my upfront costs.

I purchased several of these last night, and I am beyond impressed with the quality.
These are made using a 3M metallized backer, then stamped in a die set that embosses the Pegasus, giving it a 3D "pop" from the backer. VERY noticeable with the Chrome on Black, and more subtle with the Black on Yellow.
Then, a layer of automotive grade Urethane is laid over the top, protecting the surface of the decal, giving it a very lustrous high gloss appearance, and providing a very rugged, UV resistant surface that still flexes to fit mild contours.
This is NOT a sticker. The Urethane is domed over the top, making these just a hair shy of 1/8" of an inch thick. These are identical, if not better quality than the stock nose emblems on the Fiero, and they fit in the emblem backer.
The back is a very high strength 3M adhesive. Once fixed to a properly cleaned surface, you will not remove these easily.
Jeff had removed the emblem from the front of his white 88 and replaced the urethane insert with one of these. It looks amazing, and the quality is out of this world.
I can't stress this enough guys and gals.. Buying 2 just doesn't cut it. You really need to pick up a handful of these. At 5 bucks each, you can easily afford it.
A comparable quality emblem purchased from a dealership would set you back between 30-80 dollars.
Also, as a reminder, by buying these and helping Jeff recoup his costs, you are also helping to spread the word about the show, about the Project, and helping the Cancer Research Center.
PS: When I say "Several" I mean I purchased 10, and plan to grab a few more and give them to friends and family to display. They don't HAVE to go on the car. You can affix them to a motorcycle, your house window, your computer, etc etc. These will go anywhere you have a smooth clean surface.
