There's a bunch of info on this. Most people go with the 3400 because of the displacement, but they are the same to install. I used a Fiero front timing cover so that I could use the fiero accessories and made it a bolt in affair. I had to mod the cover a bit, and trim an 87GT engine mount down to clear the aluminum oil pan. Just do a search for 3x00 swap.

yeah its a very common swap.. Pleanty of topics with info on it.. Just becarfull you dont mistake a 2.8 too 3.1 upgrade thread.. Since you want details on how to swap in a 3.1.. Because alot of people also just upgrade the stock 2.8 to a 3.1..

it would also help a lot to know what year 3100 you are talking about, 2000 + heads are better from the factory.

If you want to get real crazy, you can do what I plan on, run fiero 2.8 pistons with 3100 heads. Very high compression, like 11.5-12.5. I plan on using a 3100 block/heads/intake and fiero crank, rods and pistons. The other good thing about 3100's is the fact you can get a custom cam ground for it.

You can also get on 60degreev6.com to find more info about the engines themselves.
