Pontiacs with a Purpose.....Pontiac Enthusiasts Support the Fight Against Childhood Cancer
September 17-19, 2010......Celebrating 84 years of Pontiac History

It's a great time of the year to visit Rhode Island and help raise money to fight childhood cancer at the same time. Check out http://www.fieropride.com/pontiaccelebration/ for information about this weekend event and to download a flier. There are 22 classes scheduled right now, but I have been assured that if we can get enough Fieros we will have our own classes. Just by word of mouth advertising, a few Fieros are already planning to attend so I'm confident that by show date the Fieros will be out in force. What better sight can there be than a large group of Fieros dotting the landscape. Let's show our bigger Pontiac cousins how much we enjoy our little two-seaters. I'm keeping track of the Fiero count so please contact me at pran@cox.net and not the contact information on the flier. I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have and I can send you a registration form.

Come spend the weekend with your family at the Crowne Plaza hotel and enjoy the activities planned. If you attended the P.O.C.I. Regional Show there a couple of years ago you know how nice this hotel is and how much fun the weekend was. The Pontiacs with a Purpose weekend is pretty much modeled after that regional show. To view pictures of the hotel, check out http://www.ichotelsgroup.co...cp/1/en/hotel/wrwri. This is a beautiful hotel with expansive grounds and easy access to Rt. 95. The show committee has worked with the hotel and block booked 40 rooms for the weekend at $99.00/night dbl. occupancy, which is an even better deal than the regional show. To book your room, contact the hotel directly at (401) 732-6000 and use the promo code LPR.

So, mark your calendars for a wonderful getaway weekend in Rhode Island in September as we celebrate 84 years of Pontiac history and help in the fight against childhood cancer. Hope to see you there. Please help by spreading the word.

Sincerely,
Gwen Randolph (Phil's wife)

It's for a great cause, and I will try to come. I have to see what else is happening around that time. Thanks for posting this, Phil.

Thanks for your interest. Contact me directly and I'll be glad to send you the registration and hotel information. The weekend at this same location a couple of years ago was great fun as anyone who attended will tell you so this weekend should be no different. The hotel...a really top notch hotel... is a beautiful location for a car show with expansive lawns. They are even offering everyone an even better rate this time. Even registration for the show is lower this time. Why should we attend:

The two children's cancer charities will benefit greatly...The Tomorrow Fund and Alex's Lemonade Stand.
We'll be hanging out with and spending time with fun Fiero people.....we always enjoy doing that.
Checking out the other Pontiacs is great too.
RI is lovely in September so come visit. We may be small, but there is lots to do.

Come join the fun!

I should be there, It all depends on what I'm doing for school though... It's only 15 minutes from my house though so it'd be a shame if I couldn't make it.

I was told just last week that the show wants to give the Fieros two classes. I have the registration materials for the Fieros. Just contact me and I will gladly get the information out to you. This show is for such a good cause and the weekend will be great fun. Let's put a lot of our colorful Fieros out on that show field.

Thanks for your interest.

September will be here before we know it. Any questions or to acquire a registration form for this show, contact Gwen Randolph at pran@cox.net. The show flier does not reflect this, but the Fieros have two classes for the show. Come help us raise money for two wonderful children's charities.

A press release has been issued recently by the show committee. Portions of that press release follows:

“A PONTIAC CELEBRATION- 2010”
September 17-19, 2010 there will be a Celebration of 84 Years of Pontiac’s Rich History in historic Warwick, Rhode Island at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Pontiac hobbyists are invited to gather for an event focused on family fun and entertainment. And, it will be for a great charity cause too, as ALL profits will be donated to help support Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation for childhood cancer and The Tomorrow Fund helping children and their families affected by cancer. A group of Pontiac enthusiasts have banned together to produce this event in celebration of the great Pontiac automobile and to use our hobby for the benefit of those less fortunate. Also helping with their generous support is the Event Host, PontiacRegistry.com, an internet Pontiac Club “building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world,” and the Main Show Sponsor, Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine. Both support the fight against childhood cancer and have enthusiastically offered their support. Others who have stepped up to help sponsor this Celebration are NiteMare Performance and Restoration of North Haven, Connecticut a premier Pontiac shop, SMS Auto Fabrics of Canby, Oregon, the leader in interior restoration materials, Competitive Automotive of Warwick, Rhode Island GM restoration specialists, RockAuto.com one of the nation’s largest on-line auto parts stores, and Ames Performance Engineering the nation’s largest supplier of classic Pontiac parts. Many others have sponsored trophies and entire trophy classes.

Friday afternoon will be early registration/check-in at the Crowne Plaza Host Hotel - for the Pontiac show on Saturday - followed by an evening Parking Lot Party and “Teddy Bear Cruise” welcoming all cars of every make and model with music, food, and refreshments. Everyone is encouraged to bring a child’s gift or make a donation to help our children’s cancer charities. There will also be numerous raffles for our charities, with many great items on display. Grand Prize is a “Florida Vacation Get-Away Package” at a private condo on Florida’s Gulf Coast Anna Maria Island for a lucky winner to come enjoy for 5-days/4-nights. The package also contains special meal, event, and gift certificates to make the trip even more enjoyable. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the Pontiac Celebration. ALL raffle proceeds go directly to Alex’s Lemonade Stand and The Tomorrow Fund charities.

Saturday afternoon will see all the beautiful Pontiacs lined back up at the host hotel for an afternoon trophy car show. There are twenty-four classes broken down into 1st–3rd place awards, and a number of speciality awards too. Judging will be by Popular Vote and hopefully a low stress event where fun and relaxation will be promoted. Again, music, food, and refreshments will be available for all. But, for those who travel the New England show circuit, they will be happy to know that “A Pontiac Celebration– 2010” is also a Super Wheels Showdown Qualifying Event.

Saturday’s activities will also include a swap meet and arts and crafts on display. In the host hotel, kids of all ages will enjoy the Hot Wheels displays and Johnny Lightning Race Club track set up for them to test their skills. Saturday evening is Awards Night at a Family BBQ with music and entertainment. Don’t bother getting all formal either– this is designed for fun.
