Looking for a suitable replacement for my 2.5 to turbocharge...I am told many of the 4 cylinder boat engines are based on the 2.5 but I am not sure how closely. Looking for anyone with knoweledge on the boat side of things. I know a OMC 4 cylinder makes 180 horse stock and is very durable and should hold up to my blo-thru carbureted turbo aspirations.
Need to find out alot of stuff. While looking for SD 4 cylinder stuff I saw they have a aftermarket crank based on a marine engine and thats where I thought of the idea. But a KRP block and $1400 crank doesnt float my boat at all.
Looking to do a iron 4 cylinder close to the duke that will hold up to the turbo, also just saw a video of a kid killing a S-15 pickup with a turbo on it...Wonder how long the stocker 2.5 would hold 5-10 psi of boost?
If I cant find any thing to work I will just do a regular old V8 swap...
Heck yeah. I have always loved two strokes and rotary's...That'd be another avenue. I rotary with a stick tranny would be a freaking hoot. especially a bridgeported turbo'd rotary that weighs half of what a ecotec probrably weighs.
I am being more conservative on this build though. Used boats with these engines can be had for a song at times.
Uh thats not exactly what I had in mind...A 350 Mercrusier is not a far cry from a regular 350 chevy....
I am looking at the Mercruiser "470" its a 224 cubic inch 4 cylinder (3.7 liter) just needing to find the type of bellhousing it uses and ignition etc. Looks from a picture I saw alot like a Iron Duke! A BIG BLOCK IRON DUKE!!!!

The Mercruisers use the SBC bolt patter so you would have to have an adapter for that but they are basically an iron duke. Get the 3.0 they have a MUCH STRONGER CRANKSHAFT, Which is the true weak point in any duke.
