Was the rear deck spoiler an option on the 88 GT's or was it standard.

Many thanks

I don't pretend to be an expert on this but, I've seen several 88 GTs with no wing which leads me to believe the rear wing was an option. I agree that most GTs had wings but, I believe dealership's probably ordered most GTs with the wing option. I say this because the majority of cars I'm talking about have what appears to be original paint with no apparent fix for bolt holes. Again, this is just an opinion.

Nope, you could order your '88 without them I believe. The only time the wing was standard was on the '88 Formula and '84 Indy

Huh. I thought it was standard until i looked it up, you are correct the rear deck-lid spoiler, RPO code (in 88) D80, is optional. But standard on the Formula. Huh.
Even more interesting, in 86 and 87 you could order a GT with a Luggage Carrier decklid (not too many of those around) but I don't not see a separate rear Spoiler option. And you couldn't order a 84 with a rear spoiler except the Indy, which it was standard.

If you do ever plan on adding a spoiler at some point - which again a just if - be sure you actually find a spoiler from a GT. While the spoilers themselves are the same on every Fiero, it is the mounting studs on the stands that are different. Notchbacks will have different mounting points than the fastback GT. While you could just drill the new holes to match the notchback spoiler, they won't be in the correct place (and I believe you cannot get to a stud on a fastback if you drill for a notchback).

No, actually in a way they are "standard". On the GT models and aero SE cars, they will be an "option". On the Formula and the '84 Indy, they're "included" when you have the RPO for either Formula or Indy, but they still come up as an "option", it's just an included "option" for that particular model RPO. For a Formula or an Indy, you would have had to do something like a "spoiler delete", which I've never seen done on either model and would have some sort of delete coding, to not get a spoiler. On the GT's or the aero SE's, the RPO would simply not be there if there was no spoiler.

^^^ That probably sounds REALLY confusing.

You could however get some very strange options on Fieros that don't show up very often. Luggage racks were an available option on fastback GTs and they show up every now and then. You could also get both the luggage rack and the Fiero spoiler together, which I believe is some sort of custom RPO that gives you the same dimensions of the rack but deletes the small black rack spoiler, replaces it with just the single sections of the rack, and adds the Fiero spoiler. Some people also add this setup to their cars by finding something like a bumper-pad car and getting just the individual beams of the rack, adding them to the car, and then putting the spoiler on. There's actually a good deal of options you can play around with on the Fiero's decklid.

Mine is an original wingless 88GT. No D80 code. I like it that way too.

The window sticker for my 87 GT shows that the rear spoiler was a $269 option.

Wow, that's an expensive spoiler! Still, Most GT's ordered by the dealers had that option.

On my spoiler, I removed it from an 88 notchback. The mounting screws can be removed by unscrewing them from the spoiler and installing them in the mounting holes that were not used. there are two sets of holes on each spoiler stand. I did this and installed my spoiler on my GT Decklid. This is in response to buying a notchback spoiler for a notchback, and a GT spoiler for a GT. At least on the 88's the spoilers and stands are the same. I am pretty sure they are all the same.

edited for poor spelling
