Just wanted to show off my Ice racer again. This years additions: Rear wing Paint 2" wheel spacers Straight pipe Front calipers in rear Hope the facebook picture comes up.
Actually, no spikes. I run a "rubber to ice" class. If you see the pictures below, you will see that we "tractionize" the tires. Just run them on 2 spikey wheels. It makes a world of difference. Motor is stock. In rubber to ice, power means nothing. Weight reduction? naw... I played with ballast weights last year. Most in RWD class need lots of weight in the rear. I chose the fiero for its Mid rear setup. Last year was a lot of problems with hydraulics. I didnt have a clutch for 2 racer (started the race on the starter in gear). My rear brakes were always partially seized and my fronts one race completely seized. I replaced the fronts last year, and rears before the start of the season this year. Once that was settled, she did well.
Action Shot First year, no action. The tractionizer Results
The Mirrors are on the fenders because the old ones got smashed off by Volvo's. Infact I have a video of it happening. All the other dings are just wheel to wheel racing mishaps. Oh, tie wraps a plenty in ice racing!
I chose this Fiero because it was cheap. It was sitting for 5 years. I paid 600 bucks (Canadian) for it.
There was some additional damage from last year as well. I was hit hard on the drivers door and the window wouldn't roll up properly. I just had to remove the door card and sledge hammer out the metal skeleton again.
You'll be happy to know the well working headlight assembly and the factory spoiler went to daveg .
I'll have video's of each race again this year.

Very nice. My dad used to ice race in Alaska years ago. He raced a couple different cars in a couple classes. His rubber to ice car was a VW bug. It did really well.
When he got deeper into it he built a car for the big boy class. A custom built 70 opel GT. All built on a corvette frame, 400hp 327, 16x15 wheels with studded tires, vette 4 piston calipers, full roll cage, extra gas tank added to balance the weight (28gal total capasity), and a custom widebody. Comes out to exactly 700lbs on each tire. Going that fast on ice with traffic is crazy! No other racing I've experianced gives quite the rush after that. Now its got a 400 and has been turned into a street car.
I wish they did ice racing here. Sure do miss it. Great job on the car! Eagerly awaiting the vids.

The Fiero is such a good car for ice racing, I remember watching some of the races, Tall Pines, Baie de Chaleure, I forget the other places but that is Canadian Rally car series. Back in the early 90's the Canadian champion was driving a Fiero, I think it was Art Mackenzie or Dave Bendle, from Alberta but that was long time ago now. They eventually upgraded to a custom chassis and they named it a Pegasus for the entry model.
