So, This will be my first winter owning a Fiero since I was a teenager, and from what I could remember were the freezing headlight doors for those of us who live in the mountains (Colorado). So I thought about just manually opening them for winter time and leaving them? Unless there is a way to leave them up without disconnecting the wires. I know that on my Mr2 there is an option to leave them up without the lights being on, so that in the cold mornings they are already popped up and no worries about the lights frozen shut. Any thoughts? thanks.... Lorin
If its 84-86 on the inside side of each headlight bucket there is a one wire connector. Turn on the lights and when they're up unplug those one wire connectors. now they wont go down and you can turn them on and off without them hiding.

You could use the knob by the headlights to wind them up manually, but next time you turn the lights on and then turn them off they will go back down.
-or-
You could remove your light switch, cut the white wire and wire a switch in line with it. When you do this, with the switch deactivated, the headlights will raise when you turn the lights on, but they will stay up when you turn the lights off, until you activate the switch you wired up. This is the route I would go.

Just a thought... I did the headlight switch mod, but you can also just tap on the headlight doors in the winter to free them from ice. Just a thought, but the headlight switch mod is the best, since you control the headlight motors.

i have three fiero's and one 97 firebird. fiero's are stored in the winter. but i drive the firebird all year. turn on the lights. then open the hood. unplug the headlight motors. know i can turn on the lights when i need to. headlight buckets stay up at all times. when warmer weather comes back in the spring i just open hood and plug motors back in for summer time fun. this same process should also work on your fiero. good luck pal.

I have had a few cars that I have driven year round with pop-up headlights including a Fiero. Never had a problem due to snow/ice with the lights coming up. I would just leave them.
However, if you still want to leave them up to avoid potential damage or wear on the motor, simply disconnect the wires to the motors.

Just unplug the single blue wire that goes from each headlight, then the next time you turn on the lights they will go up, but not down.
Never put your fingers anywhere around the headlight bucket when they are on. If you want to know why put a carrot under the bucket and turn the lights off.
It's simple to do. I do it when we get our ice storms.

Same here, i leave them down if all we get is snow, but if we have ice coming, i pop the motor wires the night before.
EDIT: another thing i have done, is if i forget and its too thick/cold to deal with, i will pop the hood, turn the lights on then lower the hood.. it breaks the ice without any damage to the motors since they are already locked into position. May not be good for the paint tho...
