I just read this on jalopnik not sure how old it is I'm going through the list right now.... some of the highlights (besides the cars already mentioned here) include:
I just noticed the Z3... hard to believe that would qualify.... hmmm something sounds strange...
I just looked it up for the 1 Z3 that was traded in... the automatic version is at 18MPG. What a waste though. That car would be worth twice that on the open market. HUH?

Just spitballing here but its possible the 350z was a car that was totalled without insurance or something and someone was just sitting on the wreckage waiting on some opertunity to make something off it maybe this was there best they could do.
It makes me sick that all those cars were completely wasted. The cash for clunkers program in general makes me sick, Id be ashamed if I had participated in it.

Unless they got more than just 4500 than that add is BS who would get rid of a TVR for 4500
Probably a Hollywood goody-goody who traded it in on a Prius so they could be filmed arriving at the red carpet in it (while their Hummer and all their other vehicles sit at home in the garages).

I absolutely hate this program and dont understand why almost everyone thinks they are benifiting from it in any way... I dont even want to begin to express my extreme dislike for whats going on, however I would like to show what Ive been seeing in the yards around here.
There is a yellow 88 Formula and a black 85 GT both automatics in a local yard ive been going to to get body parts for my buddys truck... as well as many other nice vehicles.
looks like original paint and everything, brand new brakes I might steal the taillights tomorrow someone already got the ground effects off this gt what a shame... I know the following is not a fiero but I just wanted to show what people are giving up...

all those cars and i don't have a running car... our government sucks.
This was my pet peeve. Bothered me even more than the money. I was raised to believe that it's a sin to waste things lke that. There were plenty of cars that could have gone to a good use, that were trashed instead. (So much money has been pissed away, that this program is of little consequence in the grand scheme of things.)
Aside from that... What must this look like to the rest of the world? I am ashamed for what my country (or at least my government) has become.

Grab what you can off that 88 Formula. I am sure there will be buyers here. If the dot matrix interior trim is still there, and in decent shape, grab it! Also, people might be interested in suspension components.
Also, if you go back, look at the underside of that wing, to see if the wingstands have cracks or not. If not, I would be interested in the whole thing! (Mine are cracked)
This program was just a dumb idea. The automakers will feel the pain all fall too, since all it did was pull forward sales.

Im going back tomorrow to get a bed for my buddys truck... im gonna look at these cars closer, see what all is in nice shape.
As of now if anyone needs anything thats small enough to ship let me know what it is, ill have a pretty good idea of whats there tomorrow and I'll let you know.
Some people are seriously on crack. Those are pretty rare to come by (1618 units) and you can EASILY make over $4,500 in the private market. I've seen 'fair' examples go for $6,000-$7,000-ish.

Are the front wheel bearing hubs still on the formula? If so how many miles on the car and what kind of shape do they look like they are in?
I have to agree with one of the posts on the Detroit Free Press website, I just can't see dealerships letting all of those valuable cars be turned in. Some one would have intercepted them before the paperwork could be written up. Either that or the cars must have been truly in horrible shape for some reason.
As to the Merkurs, the power steering would still be available for purchase. Only the drive trains had to be destroyed. In this case the program merely made more of them available immediately, instead of removing them from our grasp.

Some of these would have to be in pretty poor shape to be worth less than $3500-$4500. I can see clunking a Fiero that might only bring $1000, but Allantes? Corvettes? XJR? Wow.
One of my buddies said that the salesmen at the dealership were not allowed to tell customers what the potential "clunkers" were worth, they were supposed to just take them. I would not have been able to stomach that responsibility. Cash for Clunkers is murder.
I HATE CASH FRO CLUNKERS THEY ARE CRUSHING ALL AND MOST OF THE GOOD CARS 310 TOYOTA SUPRAS WTF 61 FIEROS WTF I WISH OBAMA WAS A CAR ENTHUSIEST LIEK ME AND SAID SCREW SOME OF THE NEW CARS AND KEEP THE OLDIES WHT DUMB PEOPLE THEY CRUSH CARS THT WE COULD HAVE BOUGHT THT COULD OF MADE THEM MONEY TO BUY THT NEW CAR RETARDS WOW ....WHOS WITH ME CASH FOR CLUNKERS MUST GO AWAY....??

Damn....a yellow Formula in a junkyard (and a decent looking one too!).
Anyway, I know you said you may grab the taillights, but I could use a good drivers side. It looks like there is a key in the trunk lock.....could you grab the cylinder assembly and the key for me??
PM me if you can get these for me.
Thanks!

There is just no way the dealer would willfully destroy a car and get $4500 for it when he can sell it on the open market for much more money.. (or keep it) Maybe nobody could recognize if a pile of shredded scrap metal indeed was an Aston Martin, or random junkyard cars pieced together.
For weeks I refused to give into the conspiracy theories. Now I'm not so sure.
The last time I checked the Fiero did not qualify. It was rated at 19 MPG and the cutoff was 18 MPG. So how did they get into the program not that I would with my GT anyway?
Here is the Kelly Blue Book approved list from the Govenment:
Ok not that I am a skeptic or anything…”alright you caught me”. I am a skeptic and do not believe everything I read on the internet. That being said I went to the original article that JALOPNIK used for their article, posted here: http://www.freep.com/articl...ueled-recent-program
So I emailed the author Justin Hyde, Free Press Washington Staff asking for proof that these cars were turned in and if possible their location. I will post his e-mail response once received.

Doesn't make sense... 2001 Aztek.. AWD, 19MPG. 2005 Aztek AWD, 18MPG. HUH? They use the same engine/tranny/drivetrain/chassis. Something is really odd here. The program is rigged, but we all knew that.
Unless they got more than just 4500 than that add is BS who would get rid of a TVR for 4500
I once saw one where the body had cracks in it and the interior was shot but it still ran. Having either of those fixed would cost almost as much as the car. Last time I checked they went for 5-10k for a driver.

The only people on crack are the ones who believe that list. I can see a couple "nice" cars going through, but when a list like this comes along I don't just say "bull" I SCREEM . most likely some Obama hater just trying to stir the pot, and it looks like he hooked a lot of suckers who were just waiting for some "proof" to throw on the fire. I'm really not mad... just very sad to see what it's doing to us.

Could be. The problem with internet blog rumors is that they tend to repeat each other. Just cause a story is repeated often, doesn't make it true. Even Top Gear picked up on an internet rumor (supposed Bugatti Veyron getting a 210mph speeding ticked in California on HWY 93 - proved later to be a fake) I'm not even sure until I see a gov't website verify that list.
at our dealership we didnoy take in any fieros we had to blow all the engines and sold them to a local used parts place so they will be striped and reused ........at least they will be used again...i believe they don't want the engines on the road any more ~Tom

My buddy just bought a 2005 dodge grand caravan for like $15k, we went back to the dealer the next to get new tires put on it (part of the deal) while waiting we decided to sneak out back and look at their collection of clunkers, and what did we see.... 2 2001 grand caravans, 1 2003 grand caravan, 1 2002 town and country, all in decent shape body wise. WTF You dont want to know how many mid 90's F-150 pickups they had, and the one that really pissed me off was a black 99 dodge 2500 with the cummins motor? really? We drove across town to another dealer who had apparently screwed people into thinking they were trading in on cash for clunkers but only half the cars had the property of the federal government stickers on them the other half had price tags. Alot early 90's cadilacs and s-10 blazers, few grand cherokees for sale $6000 firm. I think the dealers are putting the screws to alot of people.
