For all you Fiero experts out there.... here is my question.

Is there a quick way to tell if a Fiero is a 1988 ?? without of course having to almost tear the car apart .... which features or give-aways to look for ???
Thanks all

is it a forumla? thats a dead give away, else look behind the wheel in the back, the 88 will have a bar that runs from the rear spindle to the back of the cradle, and 2 bars from the cradle to the spindle, where as the 84-87 has an "A-arm" only.

might have to get on the ground to see it, but thats an easy tell tail unless the rear cradle was swaped, otherwise, look at the vin # 10th digit is the year J is 88

look under the car in front of the rear wheel if you see a trailing arm and 2 lower arms on the cradle it will be an 88 unless someone has done a cradle swap

this is not the best pic but you can see that the 88 has 2 straght arms on the bottom instead of 1 A arm
the trailing arm was off mine in this pic.

their are other indicators as well but that is the fastest way to tell.

That's the best answer. You can even see one of the VIN tags through the windshield.

My Formula (white car), next to a red '87. I know the wheels are different but look at the difference in stance, especially on the rear.

88 ONLY
Coupe/Formula - rear facia has cut outs for dual exhaust
Rear suspension as mentioned
Front shock is inside the the spring instead of to the rear of it.
I think the calipers are all towards the rear of the car. Pre 88 the fronts were toward the front of the car.

Just look under the back. The e-brake cables are routed differently. I don't have a picture handy - maybe someone can post one.

Also look at the VIN and the numbers at the end of it. The letter before the P and the last 6 numbers is the year. Example: in JP123456 J is 1988, P is Pontiac. So look for JP on an 88.

E - 1984
F - 1985
G - 1986
H - 1987
J - 1988

Easiest way is to look for the calipers - 88 front is at 9 oclock, rear is at 10 oclock.

Then look in the rear wheelwell. The 88 has the trailing arm visible in front of the wheel from the spaceframe to the Knuckle.

...and on every body panel (assuming stock). If the hood is open, there is a sticker on top of each fender. The VIN check is by far the quickest, most reliable way to tell.
However, as a passer-by from afar, you can usually spot an '88 by instinct, because they'll have a generally sleeker, sexier look, and you'll notice 'something different' that you can't quite point out.

If the decklid is open, look at the tops of the shock towers.
The earlier cars have three oblong "reinforcements" that the strunt mounting bolts protrude through.
The 88s have a single ring that goes all the way around the hole where the strut pokes through the top of the tower. The three bolts go through that ring.
