I am the guy who is doing the shifter knob recovering for fieros. I was wondering if anyone would want thier indy shift knobs recovered. The reason why i am asking is.... KEV is putting pressure to get some automatic knobs done. As you have seen i have the material to do indy manual but not automatic amd mpt very many more. I contacted a distributor today and a cost for a 1/2 hide of this leather will cost $270 dollars plus thread which is about $10. Since i know that there were only 2001 indys done i dont think that their would be enough people interested for me to purchase the leather. So i am putting this out to the forum to see exactly how many people would want to have an indy knob recovered. I have footed the bill for dark tan, grey, and some beechwood colors because i know there are buyers out their for it and have yet to break even, but i am not sure about indy. please prove me wrong. I dont want this to be a "if you build it they will come" and no one comes!!

I might raise my costs to $50 shipped with core on these because of so few interest. I could do arm rests but first i need to get the people who are interested in shift knobs. Arm rests would be priced according to the amount of material needed to use.

mike i already have the leather for the manuals. But if you would send the leather and the leather is soft enough then it would cost you $15 to have me cover it.

I know i could make a fortune but.... I know that paul vargus knows a guy to get them recovered for like 110 or so. And you know electrothon how much leather is and it is not cheap when you screw up. If i was to do them i would definatly be charging a lot more than 110. I have my patten made and i have started working on one for me but it will all depend on how long it actually takes to make one and if it turns out to the liking of people here.

Are you kidding? I need shift knob, armrest, and steering wheel. But for now I would settle for shift knob. I tried painting one, but that didn't turn out so good.
so if i was to do all these i would now need at least a whole hide to do it.
I would caution you before buying a whole hide that people talk big in the concept phase, but when the rubber meets the road, only 10% or so will actually buy. So I would take deposits or something before purchasing the whole hide.
Matt- Although I was luck enough to find a NOS manual knob for my car, I would consider having the original re-covered (I wasn't aware there is a difference between the material used in the auto's. vs. the manuals). Thanks for helping the "INDY" folks. Here's a bump for you anyway.

I am up for one at $50 but out at $100. I also need my drivers seat fixed. Would it be worth sending you the covers or should I look locally? Is the leather in the right color readily available for upholsterers?
<edit to add comment> I am also willing to send a deposit if you decide to do this.

Sorry but i dont do seats i would only do shift knobs arm rests and steering wheels. I am not sure on the arm rests or the steering wheels as i have not tried to do them yet. I am just trying to be honest. I am sure i can do them it will just take some time once i have the pattern.

I wont sell it till it passes the wifey test. I make them she inspects them if they pass the item goes out. (better than chinese quality control) If you look at my other thread where i am selling the knobs being recoverd i have sent over 16 out now and all were very happy.

I am one of the happy ones. My manual shift knob looks just like the pictures of Indy knobs, so I am quite satisfied.
Matt, if you need a volunteer for the armrests, I will send you mine, plus a deposit. If you are serious about starting, send me a PM with the details. Thanks again.
bump someone with a extra indy automatic knob that they can part with for a little bit please PM me I need to look at one closer to ensure that i do this correctly.

Depending on price, I might be interested in arm rests. Mine haven't gotten any use (to speak of) but sheer age has started to show in the form of wrinkling. My shift knob looks new though...
I would need a sacraficial set of indy arm rests for the pattern as i dont have any indy stuff. So does anyone have a really nasty looking set but the leather is still intact.

If i can get a set of indy ones done and have the pattern then yes a standard set could be done.!
Well if it happens, I am definately in for a set of standard ones. Mr. Mike used to make them but no longer does. Maybe you could give him a call and get a pattern?
Update. Still looking for a set of arm rests. And a lower price on the leather. At the price i was originally quoted it is not a guaranteed match. The dye lot might be off a 1/2 a shade. I am looking into a company in new york you send them the color and they match a whole hide in it. I know it will not be cheaper than the other on i was looking at but.. i can guarantee it will be the correct color. tan, dark grey and black are just easy colors to find an match it seems.
I can send you a set of arm rests off the Indy I keep in storage and dont drive, but I have to have them back at some point. You have an approx price you might ask to recover them? I won't hold you to that as a finished price-- I just want a ballpark figure.
I have no clue on how much i would charge. I dont know how much material is involved in covering these. I know that someone got them recovered recently in vynal and the company who did them said that i would should be more than the $200 they charged them to do i because of materials. And i am going to do these in leather not vynal. I guess that could give you a ball park but i am not sure.
Again anyone have a crappy set laying around that they can part with. As in i buy them at a reasonable price? The reason why i want to buy them is because if i get them tear them all apart and decide not to do them then i will not have an angry owner with out a pair. I just dont want a flame war here.
