That is kind of odd. I have KBB saved to my favorites in my home page. I swear that I did the value of my 87 GT recently. Just goes to 89 now. I don't get it either.

The KBB value of a 25 year old car is kind of meaningless. At this point 99% of it depends on the condition, which varies considerably. Also whether it's stock or has mods is not going to be reflected in the book.

If you really are interested in what your car is worth then you need a collector car appraisal.

NADA has them priced in their collector car guide HERE.

John Stricker

EDITED to correct the link. Thanks heavyRfoot for catching it, I was looking up too many cars last night.

The NADA guide is entertaining.. For an 88 formula, if you choose the 6 cyl engine, it knocks the value down by 10 percent. If you choose a 4 cyl engine, it knocks it down 15 percent. does this mean if you have a V8 conversion, you get full value?

PRICING

Original MSRP: $10,999 Low Retail Average Retail Value High Retail
Base Price $1,500, $3,250 $4,525
Options

6 Cylinder Engine -10%
Air Conditioning 10%
Sunroof 5%
TOTAL PRICE $1,575 $3,413* $4,751

I always thought KBB values where way off anyway. If I remember right, it said my 87 GT in good condtion was worth about $1800. I know its probobly not worth more then $3500 but thats a big difference.

KBB sounds like its run by insurance companies, they always underprice vehicles.

And if you have the diesel option it knocks 10% off...

Wow...no T-Top option...and an 86 6cyl coupe with ac and sunroof is only worth 200 less than an 88 GT with the same options. Does anyone have an emoticon waving a BS flag?

Ummmm...This value calculator DEDUCTED 10% when I checked the "V6" button on a 1988 Fiero Formula. NO KIDDING.

EDIT: Just noticed someone already mentioned this, PLUS the deduction for a 4 cylinder engine! Holy USELESS Batman! If you don't check ANY engine choice, you don't get a deduction though...

Or car dealers. They somehow like to quote KBB on your trade in yet use NADA when the re-sell your trade the next day. How surprising...

kbb only goes back 25 years. i know most car ins companys wont insure a car over 25 years in PA its more of declared value and most people who drive cars that old have liability only on them.

I went to the NADA site and typed in 1986 Fiero Sport Coupe (they don't list "SE" ) and check out the options:

Passenger Car
1986 Pontiac Fiero 2 Door Sport Coupe

Check Applicable Options and Equipment:
305 V8 Engine (??????)
4 Cylinder Engine
6 Cylinder Engine
Air Conditioning
Sunroof
Trans Am Recaro Package (???????)

Original MSRP: $9,449
High Retail Base Price $4,225
Options

305 V8 Engine 10%
Sunroof 5%
Trans Am Recaro Package 5%
TOTAL PRICE $5,070

If you go with the V-6 there is a -10% shift????

6 Cylinder Engine -10%
Sunroof 5%
TOTAL PRICE $4,014

Option differences are:
305 V8 Engine 10%
4 Cylinder Engine -15%
6 Cylinder Engine -10%
Air Conditioning 10%
Sunroof 5%
Trans Am Recaro Package 5%

Wonder why the V-4 and 4-cyl engines are negative value differences?

And from the "sport coupe" to the GT the price difference is only $95 more.

the 1987 SE lists "No options"

The 1985 doesn't list a GT and here is the option list for 1985:
Check Applicable Options and Equipment:
305 V8 Engine (?????)
4 Cylinder Engine
6 Cylinder Engine
Air Conditioning
Diesel Engine (???????????????????)
Sunroof
Trans Am Recaro Package (????????)

And it just gets better:
1984 Pontiac Fiero 2 Door Sport Coupe Turbo Pace Car (Turbo????)
And 1984 list the same options as the 1985.

So to recap:
1984 thru 1986 had 305 V-8 and Recaro's as options
1984 and 1985 had diesel engines as an option
The Indy Pace car was a turbo in 1984
GT were only available from 1986 thru 1988
No options were available in 1987

Sorry but the NADA doesn't seem very accurate.
