In '84 you could get the level III trim, which included those sheepskin leather seats. In '86 & '87 you could get the suede leather seats, but only on the GT models. They are fairly uncommon and, like the '84 sheepskin seats, do not hold up well over time. In '88 you could get actual leather seats, again,....only on the GT. These too are fairly uncommon, but they hold up a lot better than the earlier ones.
The '84 sheepskins actually look very nice when they are new/in great shape, but they wear very easily and just get very nasty very quickly. I too had a set of these on a parts car I had 10+ years ago and they were very rough back then. I also had a car with the suede seats and they were hard as a rock.....could not get them to soften up at all. Once they get hard, it's all over. I've owned an '88 Gt with factory leather seats as well, and while not perfect (the side bolster area wears on these pretty easily), they were still fairly soft and pliable and, quite frankly, felt better to sit on than the other two styles.
**Edit to add that the level III sheepskin seats could also be had in '85. I remember seeing a few '85 GT's with these seats.**
