I'm thinking about doing a "slim pop up" headlight and I was wondering if anyone has installed sealed beam headlight conversion lights into the stock location that weren't quite as tall? How did you do it?

I've seen these conversion headlights on ebay that are 6x4 inches... what are the stock dimensions?

(Or if anybody has a set of kris munson non pop ups they want to get rid of, please pm me... or if you have 90mm or 75mm round driving lights that you want to get rid of, please pm me... or if you have the rx7 non pop up (fieroking) headlight conversion that you want to get rid of, please pm me as well)

Something like this????

I'll have to dig up the instructions and what not, but they are on the forum somewhere. I think Electrathon had posted them.

Edit: used 95 Camaro housings modified to accept a dual filament bulb. They were rather bright.

I chopped the buckets in half and used epoxy to put them back together.

I've seen the fierofan headlights that yellowstone has, they're by far the nicest set up. The hella lights are awesome... but to be honest, a little out of my price range. At over 200$ just for the buckets, plus another 300$ appx for the lights and the harnesses, and in CDN dollars + shipping, + border taxes, I'll be at 750$ by the end of it. I just don't have that budget for headlights.

I wish someone would make headlight buckets like these to fit the stock location. (in fiberglass, not cf to keep costs down):

With a lexan cover, or even bare, so they could accept two round lights. Then hopefully we could find an inexpensive source for round lights maybe 90mm or 75mm like in the rx7 aftermarket headlights on ebay and we would have a great looking, inexpensive set up.

I made a set of brackets for cadillac xlr projectors, not cheap but hid high and low beam is great:
https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/084985.html
I did seal the back and top with an aluminum plate, and the front with some plexiglass.

they may not be pretty, but who can see them at night anyways.

That's one of the few HID conversions I've seen on a Fiero that's done properly. Notice the sharp cutoff of light on the wall - that keeps you from blinding oncoming cars. Most HID "kits" don't have the proper reflectors/projectors and just blast light down the road. That's fine for off road use, but dangerous on public streets. (you'll also notice most of those kits say for Offroad Use Only).

Yes, nice sharp cutoff, and since they are bi-xenon you can easily get on comming trucks with highbeams to go to lowbeam, just give them a taste of there own medicine hid hi-beam.

I've also used them when passing at night, going the speedlimit I was high-beamed after I passed, I let that car pass by me and gave him a taste of his own medicine. I was amazed that i could easily see the colour of his headliner when I gave him the high-beam.

I think I may do something similar to this... I cant find the thread on it now. What size is the camaro housing? What was done to fit the H4 bulbs and anyone know what the mounting looks like?

I have Fiero1Fans's twin round headlight buckets here to go in this car, I just need to buy the lights. I'll do that when I get the car out, hopefully this spring.

More info in following link:

You can see the jist of the bracket, however they are a very tight fit as you can see in the next picture. The bracket underneath actually has some give in it due to the limited space by using both aluminum and plastic.

The difficult part of the buckets were the sides, as there was limited room. I had to cut out a slot for the Mounting braket from the stock projector, and where the solenoid is for high beam. Then mount the bottom for a good starting point for aim and trim the back, which there was very little clearance for. I ended up making a few prototypes out of wood that are very rough just to get an idea if they would fit. I used uhmw plastic 1.5 " thick for the sides the top, bottom and back are thin, roughly 1/16" aluminum for weight savings and rust resistance, as well to provide structure and resistance to heat.

Yoy may find other projectors that fit better, as each projector is different, so you just have to build a box that the projector fits in, and then make it fit in the stock location. If I were doing this again I would probabaly go with flush mount for the simplisity, and space constraints or hella rounds in the slim round popup.

A smaller easier projector to fit would be the hella 50mm projector lights, but they were much more expensive so I thought I would give the bi-xenons a go.

For my winter beater, a grand prix, I plan on using blazer projector fog lights with a retrofit kit for lighting, as stock headlights are not that great, and blazer projector fog lights have a good reputation for retrofitting with ease and a great cutoff since there is a cutoff shield inside. I would try this on the fiero first, as they are excellent lights using the stock 37 watt halogen bulb.
